    time for new CPU

So right now, here are my specs:

    • ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 mobo
    • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ AM2 @ 2.5GHz
    • APEVIA ATX12V 600W
    • EVGA 8800GT 512mb
    • 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer @ 4-4-4-12

    3DMark06: 9719

I am looking to get this CPU:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor

Since that CPU requires more wattage, should I get a new PSU? I have had that Apevia for a while now and it's 600W, is that enough to power the new CPU? I just have a feeling that new CPU plus the graphics card, that the PSU i have now won't be enough.

Didn't someone reference a site that calculates roughly the wattage your hardware will drain?

I've got a 600W Power supply and I have the 6000+, an 8800GT, and 4 HDs running off of the power supply.

Mine is idling at about 38C right now. It bumps up 5-10 degrees under load. I bought a Zalman CPU cooler instead of the stock cooler that comes with a retail CPU.

Ya, right now I have a Zalman 9700 that should fit the 6000. Only problem is, is that it's aluminum and not copper. Stupid, I know.

BH, I have same Mobo, (well mine isn't a Deluxe) running a 125w 6400+ and an old (3+ yrs) 650w Enermax PSU, with no troubles. Even though that Mobo doesn't say it supports that high of wattage CPU.
    ASUS M2N-SLi AM2 (940 pin)
    AMD 6400+ (125w) @ 3% OC / @ 3.361GHz
    Single GTX 260
    Go for it...

You should be fine. I have the 9500 (all copper) and the hottest I've seen my CPU get was about 58C and that was under full load to both cores with the temp in my office a bit above normal 85F rather than the usual 75-78F. Zalman coolers rock.

I have the 6000+ with a 9800gt 2HDs. I was running a 500w PSU and it was fine (except the damn psu squealed like a pig). I do not have temp problems with my 6000+ with stock cooler, but my case is also a f*&ken wind tunnel.

Upgraded to a 800w BFG psu and IDK if it is just mental, but i swear my comp seems faster.
