Braddoc, in answer to your question... I was all set to try the fixes that were recommended and I figured I'd start with a clean slate, so, I rebooted the computer. After doing that, I tried the game one more time, just to make sure it was still an issue, and, lo and behold, I didn't get the message and was able to play. I don't know why I've never seen this issue before, and since I rebooted I haven't seen it since....yet....I guess it's safe to say that I have a guardian angel that watches over me and waits until I have a period of time in my life when things are just about breaking even-towards the better-and then pulls out some bullshit from the filing cabinet of "Fucking with Humans" and dumps it on me, just to keep me on an even keel of frustration and misery.

Bottom line, I have NO idea what caused it, closing everything out and rebooting the pc seemed to correct whatever was wrong. Now, at least, I know where to find the answer to this particular question, should it ever rear it's ugly head again.

As far as I'm concerned, with problems like this, I don't care how long it's been happening to who, the way I see it, the longer it's been happening, the more chance the makers have to correct it, whether it be PB or EA or whoever. THIS is why I get so bent out of shape when stupid shit like this happens. If this had just happened for the first time and this type of thing had never happened before to anyone, I could understand. With YEARS of this happenening, it just goes to show how lazy whoever the makers of the game are, in addition to ignorant (due to the amount of money they could still be making if people didn't stop playing the game because of bullshit like this.)

I've been gone from BF2 and TTP for a while, with all the bs that the oh-so-thoughtful VA has brought into my life, and the first thing I noticed was the SERIOUS drop in the amount of servers available to play on, not just with the filter options I have selected, but also without ANY filter options selected as well. I think it's safe to say that things like these kind of problems have contributed to the decline of the popularity of the game. Yeah, there are now newer games out, some better some worse. However, if EA/PB took the time to MAINTAIN their packages, there would, more than likely, be more people still playing, and by extension, more servers still available to play on.

I can't stand people who half-ass things.

EA can suck a big fat one. i stopped playing 2142 due to consistent CTDs, and some personal issues i was seeing in-game. i've started back up on it lately, but mostly because i miss it. i seriously like that game, but just couldn't handle the stress of the constant reloading.

i personally think that this problem comes from PB updating, and one process (either PBa or PBb) restarts, and gets out of sync with the other. thus, their "handshake" (or 'reacharound') fails. i can see that happening with 2 processes that work so tightly together.

how's bf2 on the crashing scene? i picked it up a while back, and i think i've played maybe 2 games. i can't ever seem to get on the TTP servers because they're usually full.

That's the reason to get a Reserve slot. Once you pay for a slot you can join at ANY time, REGARDLESS of whether the server is full or not. What happens is, when you go to join (as a Reservist) the server looks for the first non-Reservist, kicks them, and lets you in, in their place.

Ultimately, you end up helping yourself, by Donating to be a Reservist and helping to maintain the server through your donations.

roger that. not new to reserved slots. when i looked at the server listing, i thought i saw mostly regs anyway, though. i'd like to get a few games in first, but it's time for a donation from me either way.

i'd also like to get on to try out the different flavors to see which i'd like best.

Someone should have told you the very first day you were introduced to a computer, "If in doubt, reboot".

Why computers do what they do is beyond every human; however these Issues are not going anywhere and they are here to stay.

My advice to you Mabell (and everyone else) in regards to computing, would be to learn to listen to the computer, don't fight against it, fight with it; as the computer is not the enemy, lack of Understanding of it however is. I'm not saying you don't understand, but that is just my own personal experience with computers (and I sit here in front of mine ALL day, everyday!).

Trust me when I say that these Issues are not confined to you solely, every single person involved in the world of computing has experienced these problems, and It's not going to end. Just get used to the fact that the computer will change and is evolving. The computer you have today will not be the same computer tomorrow; and actually, you don't want it to be.... or you would be like the Guy I saw at QuakeCON with his little 15" CRT monitor, dirty old 80's Keyboard, playing Startcraft...... (it was sight to see, funny thing was, he was like an 18 year old kid).

TTP will make a computer/gaming nerd out of you yet.
