    Vista crashing!?

Well some of you know im on a Dell XPS with Vista on it and it looks like Vista or Dell is starting to crash. Nothing will load right. It take 5 minutes just to get CoD4 to the main screen to choise my profile and then its stops working. If reinstalled it and it still does it. If i use compatiblity mode it works a little better but my PB wont work. Same thing for 2142, CoD1, CoD2, and all my other games. It took me 10 minutes just to get to the Tech forums. PLEASE tell me if our computer is starting to crash! Because if it is, my dad will be wrong for the first time.

    Hmmm....

When does it crash, and how does it crash?

Do you get a Blue Screen, or does it freeze up, or does it restart?

What sort of operations are you doing when it crashes?

Did you change anything, such as hardware, software, or drivers prior to the crashing?

sounds like a massive slowdown... cpu / memory being eaten... just from the description. I'd suggest spyware/malware.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

It frezzes and then it wont restart when i tell it to. I havent gotten a Blue Screen yet but i've been trying to check the disks but admin privs tell me that i cant so i cant see if a disk is failing. I've been watching the memory and cpu %'s and its down at 2% CPU and 128mb out of 4gb beeing used. But if the whole Cpu is beeing used, why dose it not dedicate one of the two for one thing and the other for my stuff? It was made to do that. But i think what has been happening was that with having 2 anti-virus software, its slowed it down but the computer is not working hard at all and theres no indacator thta says it scaning like it supposed to. The two anti-virus software we have are Norton 360 and Kaspersky. Kaspersky if turned off and Norton 360 is running. Anything i said may be conributing to this "slow down" or "pre-crash"?

First of all, you shouldn't ever run multiple Antivirus programs on the same machine. They'll stomp all over each other and cause you nothing but headaches. (Same can be said about running mulitple firewall programs as well) The freezes sound a lot like a hardware issue rather than the OS. I'd look into a utility that will let you monitor your video card temperature. When they overheat, you'll lock up hard like you describe.

If we turn on off does that still apply as the computer running two at once or not?

When you 'turn off' most anti-virus programs there's still stuff running in the background. I honestly don't see why you'd waste the resources to have 2 installed in the first place, but that's just me.

    Re: Vista crashing!?

It could be a HD, but normally you'd a slowdown rather than a complete hard lockup, unless the disk is failing hard.
