Is it worth the $30 for a novice user like myself?

Looks sketchy Elk. I have never run into a troubleshooting program that actually worked in a real situation, and I wouldn't expect this to be any different. Any problem that has ever come up for me as a network admin was easily solved using Google. 99.9% of the time if you have the problem someone else has had it before you. It just takes knowing what words to search with. If worst comes to worst post it here.

As for tuning. There is a free tool called TuneXP 1.5 that does a better job than anything else I have tried. Just read the help before you tweak.
