makin teh pc fast again?
alright guys n gals,
Built this rig in july, kicked ass and now its starting to get slow at loading stuff, core2quad @ 2.75ghz, 4 gigs ocz ram, rediulously oversized hard drive i swapped over thats sata.
my desktop is 12 shortcuts, literally shortcuts, no folders to load on startup or anything. only things that load on startup are avg and ad-aware; i scan regularly for viruses as well as run CCleaner and defragment, maximum processes ever running is 29-31 on xp pro sp3.
lately though, css has taken a rediculous amount of time to loan and when the pc first boots it takes a good 30-40seconds after logging in to get rid of my favorite hourglass in the world (sarcasm).
anyone have suggestions to make it get back to i snap my fingers and its done like it used to be?

Defrag CSS. I have done it before, but because it prompted me. i don't know if you can go to options and do it.

core2quad @ 2.75ghz, 4 gigs ocz ram is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YY enough resources.
I run Vista on a c2q 2.4 4gigs ram, and I absolutely LOVE it. So smooth, and the visuals make everything sick lookin.
Now on my laptop, which is a 2.0 c2d, 2gigs ram, I had vista on it, and it was a little buggier. But- that was HALF of what I have in my PC. I run XP on my laptop.
Give it a try.... You don't know what you're missing. I can't imagine going back to XP on my BeastPC. It's just so... Dull.. and windows 98' lookin.

Re: makin teh pc fast again?
i was a beta user for it on my old computer which was a 3.5ghz p4 and 4 gigs of ram...still wasnt much of a fan. You not gonna convince me to run vista, probably ever...obviously there's a huge following with XP because microsoft is releasing DX10 for XP here shortly...there's a reason behind it.
anyway though, back to the OP...any suggestions or tweaks?

Defrag CSS... You can do it by opening up your games in steam.... right clicking CSS and go to options. Go to local files and then defragment cache files. This will show you the severity of the fragmentation of the game before you even defrag it at the top in percentages. Mine is 14% right now.
