Re: Budget Build
I've got this mobo from Asus http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131232. Love it. Has a nice OC tool that comes with it that can let you OC on the desktop unless you just really want to do it in your BIOS.

That is the mother board that I have. I had the wife look. It is AM2 not +. I think the processor you pointed out looks good. I guess I missed it all together when looking on newegg.
Let me see what ram I have in there. Maybe I will upgrade it just for grins if it is ddr400 or something. I know its 2x1 gig of corsair something.

Re: Budget Build
HAHAHAHAHA, you have the same exact motherboard I do in my backup gaming rig. It's an AM2+ and will support AM2+ quad processors. Check the BIOS updates available and see the processor compatibility list. I can guarantee the board is under warranty still since I just got mine back from RMA last week.
BTW, the board is known for being a problem child and definitly update the BIOS. Mine came back from RMA with 1604 loaded which is the latest beta version.

Re: Budget Build
BTW, the only difference between "new" AM2/AM2+ motherboard and yours is that newer boards have PCIe x16 2.0 slots. Since I am assuming you have a PCIe x16 1.0 video card, there is no need to get a new board unless your going to replace your video card too.
Trust me, $80 and your back up and running.

Re: Budget Build
I agree with the above statements. Just get a newer AMD AM2 proc for now. You will be back in your game a lot cheaper. Most of the AMD chips are cheaper than the Core 2 and you wont have to upgrade anything. I am running an X2 5800+ right now and I have zero complaints about any load times or performance. 80 bucks and you are flying again.

Re: Budget Build
Well this shoots everything in the foot. Crap!
She was looking at the other computer that I have sitting here, that I built for my dad a while back and that computer got fully submerged in water. It is a M2N, but it is totally trashed. I thought I could salvage some stuff but it's toast.
Mine is a Socket 939 A8N SLI PREMIUM. So it is a no go for the upgrade on the processor that you guys were mentioning.
So, what to do, what to do?

Re: Budget Build
Well, it's a lot more money but might still end up being cheaper. Tigerdirect still sells a 939 dual core for $190:

ZipZoomFly has a 939 one too but it's a single core, only $40:

Maybe do the E8400 ($165) then Syrringe idea and use this memory ($59 after rebate),

Out the door for around $215 but older technology.
