    Linksys Wireless-G Router

I need help deciding which Linksys router would be best in the 50-75 dollar range.  Only needs to be capable of B/G and the person specifiacally asked for a Linksys.  I've been looking at the WRT54GL, although it is a little bit older.  I haven't looked at wireless routers in 2-3 years so I am a little niave on the latest greatest products in this price range.  Any help, ideas or experience would be duly appreciated.  Thanks!

I've been using a WRT54G for years and it's never failed me. If you're not looking at anything special, it gets the job done... and it's fairly cheap in comparison to a lot of the new routers out there.

I have also been using WRT54G for a long time. Easy to set up if you want security and has many many more options.

Well, looking into it I use the WRT54GS. Probably because it was at Walmart. Same difference I believe.

Which version of the WRT54G are you using? I've heard people complaining about the lower memory and third party software after version 5, although I doubt the person I will be getting this for is going to be doing much larger file transfers on the server. I understand the WRT54GL is just a linux based version with the same memory of the WRT54G pre-version 5. Will this amount of memory matter for a network with two to three laptops and one to two desktops active at any one time? Most traffic will just be internet based.

I have had the 54g for two years now with no problems. Run two PC's on it fine and occasionally the lap.

    Re: Linksys Wireless-G Router

I have a wrt310n which handles not only the internet but streaming hd content to my tv from my computer. I also deal with many routers each week and have found linksys to be the most consistent consumer-level routers. I'd run out of fingers if I was to count how many times I've seen a dlink or netgear router fail.

The Linksys WRT54G is pretty good but pretty low end. For about 30 bucks more you should get the D-Link DIR-655 wireless router. It's top rated i believe and looks hot.
