    Re: 24" vs 19"

I am just in here for the dual GPU discussion

I have a 21" 1600x1200 CRT (my 19" flat panel croaked and I have not replaced it so I "reverted" and ended up liking it better).

    I have SLI 8800GTS 640s (the G80 core flavor).

When I was at 1280x1024 I saw reduced framerates in all games when using any of the 3 available multi GPU rendering modes.

When I run 1600x1200 I get about 10 FPS more average when running multi GPU mode AFR2. In oblivion I got a whopping 20 to 30 more FPS.

So monitor size and number of GPU's does matter... But BF2/2142 at 60 to 90 FPS vs. 70 to 100 FPS aint no thang. Oblvion benefitted considerably though.

I always run AA at 16 and AF at 8.

The G80 core is getting pretty old now though, as Mury said, but mine are still kickin' and I imagine any new mid to high end GPU will drive resolutions under 2k just fine (unless it is Crysis). If you get yourself a 32" it may be time for SLI/Crossfire if you want your eye candy.

And one more note: certain special effects (on card Physx, SLI AA, etc.) do run better with SLI and DX10. But those games don't exist or are not worth playing yet.

Hmm... I was thinkinig about getting a 24" or 28" and now I'm not sure. If I have to go SLi, the $400 monitor upgrade will end up costing me $1000. (Another 260 GTX and a PSU that has 4 PCIe connectors).

Same with me. When I got the 22", I was amazed and wondered why I didn't do it sooner.

You do NOT need SLI - a 260 will be MORE than enough power to run 1920x1200 with eye candies turned on. EASILY.
If your really worried step down to the 22 inch, 1680x1050 which is a very nice sized monitor and the 260 will crush it.

I got my Dell 2408w delieverd Saterday

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-6272

Running non-first person shooters at 1920x1200 but only went to 1680x1050 on BF2142. So far NO preformance hit. Liking it a LOT.

However I had a 21" CRT so not a LOT of difference for me.

Hell yea you are liking the new res huh?

You should not see a performance hit in 2142 no matter what because that game is good but old so no stress on the gpu.
Load up some L4D, Crysis or any other new game you will more than likely see a hit.

Unless you live by theory of mcstrange were you can run a 7600gt with all the eye candy and high res without lag....
