Re: Best Deal on Windows Vista?
64 bit is absolutely necessary to run 4+ gigs of ram. 32 bit wont utilize any thing about that. ultimate essentially incorporates home premium + business, and some extra stuff like stuff specially for ultimate users only, which i think is just dreamscapes and stuff, im not sure.. windows 7 is supposedly to be out in 09. some test builds are already leaked. i dont know anything about it. im on the fence to grab an oem copy of vista myself, as i use xp 32 and 64 on all of my machines i have currently.
what the other guys said about the oem license is more or less correct. oem is gonna be like a disc in a sleeve with a sticky label with your license # like some system builders put on the case, and the licensing agreement is a bit different but the other guys pretty much covered that already.
newegg is awesome. when i build rigs for friends, or for myself or source parts for upgrades, if im buying new parts not second hand, i always buy either from newegg or tigerdirect. newegg offers free or very cheap shipping on a huge selection of products. both offer exceptional pricing, and my favorite thing about newegg, is the extensive database of feedback comments on most of their products. tiger also has awesome pricing, and sometimes has killer sales deals- for example i just grabbed a g9 logitech mouse there for under 40$, and it arrived yesterday. thats usually a 100$ mouse.

So then, OEM is the way to go as well? I dont hardly see the point of retail, as if I would call MS for help with my computer anyway...thats ridiculous.
I also see they have a version of Office 2007 on there for basic use for like $79, thats a solid deal as well.

Well shit now I feel stupid that I paid for retail... I figured the OEM was locked into one mobo forever and didn't like that idea.

Re: Best Deal on Windows Vista?
Just a tip that might work for most of you in college. If your college has a University Computer Center ask them about student discounts off various software. I got a copy of Vista Ultimate for $25 from Texas A&M.
I then got each of my friends to use their student ID's and order copies and sold them all to my gaming friends online.
Give it a shot.
