Wow....big even quoted himself from this thread.

So. What about the video card. The 4870? or the 260? I play TF2 CS DOD L4D. But then I also play COD4/5, Both battlefields, Farcry 2, Rainbow six Vegas 2. So I play the valve games but I also play the non-valve games.

Nvidia cards and ATI cards will perform the same in most of those games.
The frame difference in games will be 5-10fps nothing big.
I suggest the ATI card. Even though you play other outside games our main games are source engine based. You want that sharpness go ATI.

I say buy whichever one gives you the most bang for the buck. look up 3d charts on tom's hardware, and compare what's out.

never, ever buy something the day or even the month it comes out. use releases like that to get the big savings on the former top of the line stuff that's now on sale.

One reason I like Cross-fire and SLI is that you can buy the slightly lower grade video card then a few months down the road when it drops to 100-150 you buy a second one. That is if you have the money and can budget for it.

Not to mention any real hardware releases will have bugs. Let them get at least few months of touching up before you purchase a high end processor/card.

4870x2 is overkill and is intended for the multiple processor mainboards. As someone has already suggested the 1G 4870 is plenty powerful enough and is currently the frame rate killer. And better yet they are less expensive than a 280 card. (Be aware these are power hogs). The biggest trap you can fall in to is the "bigger is better" game. A Geforce 9800 GT is cheap-er and can handle all the games on the market today. Many of the 8800's are being "Fire Sale" priced to make room for the newer cards. And according to the latest news release, there soon will be a GF 300 that promises to make the ATI card the new old stuff, which means that the 260 & 280 cards will likely become "affordable" in the near future. Go to www.maximumpc.com for more general information, they currently have some reviews of the different level Vid cards.

Also, manuals are downloadable from asus. as for accessories.....your case is going to come with all the screws you need. All that woudl be required would be the sata cables to connect your HD and CDROM(s). Cheap things you can add to your order. Everything else in the box is trash usually.
The new socket 1336 I7 processors are supposed to be a dramatic leap in performance over the dual or quad 775's. Supposedly (although I'm skeptical) as big difference as the pentium 4 dual cores to duo core processors.

As soon as I get the mobo in, I'll let you guys know what I think. Unfortunately, I don't have any current quad cores to compare it against

that remains to be seen. And even so, that only drives the prices of the currently outstanding dual and quad cores available even lower.

For the love of God, go for a 1950x1080 monitor... The price is coming down, and you'll be able to upgrade to a BluRay drive. Don't you want to play your HD games in their native resolution?

I love my new Asus VH226...
