01-14-09, 08:36 AM #1AMD/ATI to release RV790 & RV740 in March?
ATI's first 40-nm parts, RV740 for mainstream segment and RV790 for high-end, could come as soon as March '09 according to Hardware Infos. CeBIT, which kicks off March 3rd could be a possible launch date, although nothing is confirmed yet.
While not much is known about these parts other than their 40-nm manufacturing process, rumors have suggested that RV740 could pack as many as 640 stream processors and utilize GDDR5 memory with a 128-bit memory interface. The card could potentially deliver Radeon 4830 performance at a sub-$99 price tag. RV790 is also expected to feature more stream processors than today's RV770 GPU used in the Radeon 4800 series. Again, the specs are still up in their air, with rumors suggesting the card could feature 840 stream processors and 48 texture units, as well as faster GPU and memory clocks as well. These cards are expected to be sold under the Radeon 4900 brand.
4830 performance in a sub-$99 card. AWESOME. I need to get my kids 3D cards for their machines so they can play some newer games.
