03-30-09, 12:35 PM #1HELP!! Vista Problem!!
Well, I have been trying to manually update all of my drivers for my hardware. And when I uninstall them and delete the drivers, Vista will re-install the hardware automatically on re-boot. Is there any way to turn off the automatic hardware installation or maybe have the computer ask me if I want to install it or not??
I know how to do it on XP but Vista is a completely different ballgame to me.

Re: HELP!! Vista Problem!!
Click cancel or something whenever it says installing drivers. Thats what I do when it tries to install stock drivers for something on boot up.

Disconnect your LAN cable if it reinstalls them on reboot. I my self have vista and that seems obvious. If its vista drivers, it has the drivers on backup just in case. If i was the creator if a mistake i would do that to keep my customers from buying XP, again.
I would think that the last option is a reinstall. I have no more help on my part.

Thank you all for your answers but this does not help. There is no "cancel" button of the sort. And as for the drivers, I have an HP computer so it already has the drivers stored on the "recovery" partition of the hard drive.
It doesn't even ask me to install or anything. I get that annoying little message on the bottom near the clock on the task bar that says "Installing device driver software".
I hate VISTA!!! I hate WINDOWS!!! :5

Re: HELP!! Vista Problem!!
Okay silly question, but why don't you just load the new drivers and forget trying to delete the old ones first? A driver update is a driver update.
.........But if you want to disable it do this...........
Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System > Tasks (side panel) > Advanced System Settings >
Hardware (tab) > Windows Update Driver Settings (make your choice here. 3rd option is probably what you want)

Re: HELP!! Vista Problem!!
I don't think he's talking about uninstalling a device. He's talking about updating his drivers, but he is deleting the old drivers first (which doesn't make sense since he is updating). If he wants to turn off the "driver check" so Vista doesn't do it automatically he needs to do what I posted above.

Well not exactly updating. I am downloading the full drivers from the manufacture websites. I am just getting the most recent drivers and that is why I said "updating". Sorry for the confusion. :P
Thank you SO much for the help chosen. Problem solved. You may now lock this thread.
