    Back to XP

Hey TTP. I have decided to go back to XP as my OS. Durrignt hat switch I will be able to put new hardware in my shitty little excuse for a rig. I wanted to replace something and was looking for a good price on parts greater than mine.

    Intel Celeron 352 -Discontinued
    ATI Radeon HD 2400
    DDR2 2 gigs

When I switch is there anything new I should get that would improve my ability to game?

I would replace the Celeron first of all. I don't even know how you managed to run anything on that. I wouldn't bother with the RAM, 2 gigs is all you need. The video card will probably also serve you well enough.

Vista will help your ability to game along with some new upgrades.

Speaking as a current Vista and former XP user, Vista really doesn't bring much to the table for gaming. Most if not all games are XP-compatible, with the exception (infamously) of Halo 2. The reverse is not true. Many old games will not run or run poorly on Vista.

As far as performance goes, Vista is by nature more demanding on your system, whether you have all the bells and whistles turned on or not. XP is much leaner.

all my games have about a 5-10 fps jump from xp to vista to windows 7 :/ vista is better for gaming after sp1 than xp it just requires better hardware

    Re: Back to XP

Vista is taking up massive amounts of space. I could care less about how Vista looks and the stuff it has because I can do all the work myself.

If I upgrade my CPU or GPU what would be a relatively inexpensive option?

So you have an Intel Celeron D 352 3.2GHz 533MHz 512K LGA775 CPU and want to upgrade.

Can you post the model # of your motherboard so we can see what chipset you have and what it supports, and the power rating of your power supply? I assume your existing video card is PCI-E.

I like how people Vista has not changed at all over the 2 years that it has been released. Vista might have been worse in 2007 for performance, but now the performance differences are minimal.
