Re: My new CPU cooler
I myself would go for the Zalaman 9900.

Yes, you take the plastic clip off before installing. IF you cant swing $75 i would go for the 9700 or 9500. I use the 9500 and love it.

I had a 9500 and it worked ok, but I was very unimpressed with the quality control. Straight out of the box when I first got it, the fan mount was bent in such a way that the fan blades scraped against the cooling fins in one location... I had to twist/bend the fan mount to eliminate this.
If you want to spend $75 get the Noctua that I got, or the TRUE (Thermalright Ultra Edition) which seems to be the HSF of choice for 9/10 overclockers out there. All in all I much prefer the new 120mm design (where you can externally mount your own fans) to the older Zalman style with the integrated fan.

I have benchmarks that say other wise:

Now take the idle and the burn in from that review, and it makes the top of your list. And it beats the duo orb.

Re: My new CPU cooler
When I was building my new rig I did alot of reading on Tom's hardware to help me select my parts and their hands down favourite for an inexpensive but quality CPU coolers was always the Xigmatek Dark Knight...
