    Re: My new CPU cooler

Ok, after some more reading it seems the stock AMD heat sink and fan is pretty good for stock running. It compares equal to all the big names everyone has posted and seems that only overclocking the cpu that you notice any difference in these coolers. So this is probably why at first I didn't get some fancy cooling unit. Well to overclock I need to look into a new set up(everyones kicking my butt running the cpu at the stock 2.4ghz setting). So time to decide and buy.

How about the OCZ Vendetta 2. I have been reading on coolers and this one scored really high(outperformed more impressive and more expensive coolers). These test were with both Intel cpus and AMD Phenom cpus.

unless you have a screen with cores at 100% it never happened :4

    1) The load appears to have been started less than a minute ago. Post a screen after a longer run.

    2) I don't see core temp anywhere. On your EVEREST taskbar I see CPU temp of 37 (which is higher than "mid 30's", even after a very brief load), and core temp should be much higher. On your EVEREST graph I see mobo 40 and HDD 43, cannot see the other numbers.

    3) 43C seems very hot for a HDD. My 250GB runs at around 27, and my 1TB's run at 30.

If that's what you meant, why did you then post a pic of your cores at 100%?

True, but it might effect the longevity of your drive. Do you have good airflow past it?

    Re: My new CPU cooler

Pics of my new Prolimatech Megahalems, considered by many to be the new king of air cooling (de-throning the longstanding Thermalright Ultra Extreme aka TRUE). It keeps my Core i7 920 @ 3.8GHz at about 68C coretemps under full Prime95 load. The Noctua unit I replaced (after using it for only two weeks) ran about 6C hotter, and it was no dud, so a 6C gain over that is great! I may add a second 120mm fan to the back for push/pull operation, but I have some small clearance issues with my VREG heatsink that I have to figure out.

Mmmm yes, I love my antec 1200 and his too.

ehm, at least that looks like my Antec side cover.

No shit 68C under full load, overclocked at 3.8 with that cooler setup. For how long? I may be putting the V8 in storage.

I left it running Prime95 for 8 hours last night to test new memory timings, and it was at 66C cores this morning with prime still running (room temp 26C). I think this is actually better than a 6C gain on my Noctua, because my Noctua would keep climbing after several hours. With the Noctua, it may be at 74C after one hour, but after 4 hours it will be at 78C. With the Megahalems, I hit 68C within 15 minutes, but after many hours I'm still averaging 66C and touching 68C every once in a while. It seems to do much better over long periods of time at preventing the temps from climbing.

I have a D0 stepping 920 and it is actually at default Vcore value (~1.23)! I could get even lower temps at the cost of noise (my case fans are only on medium - yep it's a 1200).

Here's one review that really favored the Megahalems. I've seen plenty of others where it didn't do quite so good, but in my experience it did do well. I got it from Jab-tech.com for $60... most other places want $75 and are out of stock! It's in very high demand...

Notice the numbers on the graph are "degrees over ambient" (not absolute), and they also mentioned in their review that they lapped the CPU. Note: Prolimatech say on their site that the Megahalems is not intended to be perfectly flat and should not be lapped. Also, Prolimatech was created by former Thermalright designers, in case you didn't know. Not surprising they beat the TRUE.
