05-24-09, 02:26 PM #1Video card upgrade.
I have, if most of you remember, an nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512mb card. And i have been dealing with low fps and overheating for a while. I've been looking around on newegg today and found some cards i like. Both ATI and nVidia. Heres a link:

Sorry thats its so long, no homo, i did a comparison. Those cards are within my price range and i like all of them.
So, out of those cards, which one should i get?

i personally have a 9800gtx and it was the single best video card upgrade i have done so far so i would recommend the xfx 9800gtx just be prepared because the 9800gtx is a huge card.

Re: Video card upgrade.
I don't know. I've never really thought there was much improvement between GeForce 8000 series and GeForce 9000 series to warrant an upgrade between the two. I put a Zalman VF900 on my 8800GT and haven't had any issues with overheating or frame drops. I had two 7900GT in SLI previously and haven't had any reason to need SLI since getting the 8800GT. I say spend half the cash and change out the heat sinks first.

Im not a big fan of modifying a video cards heatsink. Nor am i a fan of copper heatsinks anymore after what almost happend to my computer.
My friend has a 9800gtx and i hate it. He got the Hybrid card and runs slower than the 8800gt i have.
Any other ideas for a card? Or should i get one of those i found?

Re: Video card upgrade.
Jasn the only thing bad about ati and the ddr 5 is they get hot fast and stay hot. hes already getting the heating problem. I myself would go with the 9800, good cards i owned 3. another thing, do you have a side fan on your case door? if not cut a hole and add one. that in its self will help loads. cut the hole just a hair below the video card. b/c the card pulls from the bottom up. Try that $20 fix b4 buyimng a new card. if it doesnt make a difference then get the card, having the fan will not hurt a bit, more air cooler card.
AND YOU ARE "WHO" AGAIN!!!!?
