Re: My computer
If you want to know what components you have down load PCWizard

If you're going to get the GTX295 it needs a strong cpu to get the most benefit. I have an i920 o/c to 3.8ghz and a Zotac GTX295. I hope this helps.

I don't know, what do you guys think. I was already seriously considering the GTX260 since it's SO much more affordable than the 295 and performance wise it's still way up there with the 295 compared to many of the other cards. I suppose for right now, the most affordable thing to do with the CPU is just get the E6700 on EBAY than go with an entirely new motherboard and CPU.
I'm desperate to replace parts on my system because it's starting to act weirder and weirder. I'm still having graphical anomolies like even during the screen saver (fish tank). It's also super slow temporarily when trying to recover from the screen saver (this started when I connected my new monitor)....

Graphics anomolies generally are related to heat issues with your GPU. The only other potential cause is something driver related (either motherboard chipset or graphics). Unless you're running crazy big resolutions (and based on your monitor you're not), a GTX 260 will be more than adequate. The nVidia 8000 series and above will run your monitor at native resolution (1280x1024) maxxed out on every game that TTP hosts. Those higher end GPUs are really only necessary for people running larger monitors or insist on dialing up every setting to the max. If you plan on replacing your monitor eventually with one of the bigger widescreens (22"+) you might be better off getting a beefier graphics card.

I edit photos and videos, personally, but there are thousands of other legitimate PC tasks that will benefit hugely from a faster processor. And like trig said, these 920's are stupidly simply to OC. Mine only runs a few degrees hotter at 3.8 (a 40% OC), and with EIST enabled it actually runs COOLER than stock at idle.
And back on topic... yes the 295 is overkill for your current system, the 260 would be a better deal.

260 card ($160 according to Soy)
That is $60 more than a 295 and would be a 100x better investment. Of course you'd still need RAM... you can get a good 6GB DDR3 for $80. Then you'd need PSU... there is a slickdeal today for a 600W OCZ for $40, that is enough for the 260 only. Now you're up to $730 total... for a brand new top of the line system (with a G-card that is one step down), vs a ratty old system with a shiny new overpriced card for $550.
Also, I got my 4890 (much better than 260 I think) for $180 which only adds $20 more to your price tag... but that is another very good deal, tough to reproduce.
