    Re: My computer

So is the E6700 a huge difference from the current E6300?

    Re: My computer

1.86Ghz vs. 2.66Ghz is a substantial leap. Further the L2 Cache on the E6700 is 4Mb compared the E6300's 2Mb. It should be a substantial leap in performance...

Although the thing to do might be to hold out and buy a whole new Mobo, CPU and RAM. Those E6700's are a little pricy because they are not manufactured anymore.

But yeah, if you buy it, all of your day to day computing tasks will be hugely faster. But for gaming, the 260 or the comparable ATi solution will give you way more gaming power.

    Re: My computer

My computer has all sorts of problems when gaming that it didn't used to have.

Graphical anomolies were the start of my problems, I've discussed this problem numerous times in this section of the forums. I have a huge power supply and have numerous fans running, not to mention I have my GPU fan running at 100%, and still the graphical anomolies seem to show up more and more when the increase in fans seemed to help a bit a while back.

Now, sometimes I'll be playing and the game will completely shut down or the entire computer will reboot, all in the middle of playing. It acts as if I'm overloading my system. I have everything updated I believe. I wonder if some of my hardware has some defects but that doesn't make sense either because it used to run perfect. I wonder if maybe some things are just plain old. Can 2 years of age really cause some of these problems..?

Who knows anymore, I'm starting to think I need to change out some things. I think that my nVidia 7900 GTOC is just wornout or something and it badly needs to be replaced. Although, I don't want to break the bank with the 295.

I'm thinking of going with the 260 for now and holding off of buying anything else hoping that the new GPU will solve a majority of my problems... So the question is, Am I wrong to leave the rest of my system along for a while and just update my GPU? Will the new GPU wear out the rest of the system, can that even happen?

As far as I can tell, that's about like asking if new tires will wear out your transmission.

    Analogy of the decade.

Now, I had an issue similar to this a few years back an an ATI card.

Started out as your problem, then finally turned into where all I could see on my monitor was multi-colored squares.

Put in a new GPU and problem solved. If you have any spare vid cards/ and buddys with one I would test this theory, but I'd be willing to bet a new card and you'll be fine.

I dont know about wearing it out, but your GPU can be held back by the rest of your system. Sticking with car analogies, it doesnt matter if you put Z rated tires on the car if its got a four-banger pushing them, youll never get close to the tires rating. One thing it does do is allow you to upgrade the rest of the parts around the GPU later when you get more money to play with, instead of upgrading them all down the road at the same time.

Are you referring to the pixels?

I have noticed that while playing lately, I would see a few random pixels here and there not related to my monitor since they only show up when gaming...

Anyways, I'm gonna go ahead and get myself a 260 to start with and I'll see what happens from there.

Yes. But it got so bad that when I would turn on my computer, all it would show from startup was pixelated multi-colored squares all over the monitor.

Checked cord, Checked monitor then finally checked card and that was it.

That is the GPU overheating. My wife has a shuttle that doesnt really allow enough breathing room for the card in there, and that happens about once a month after the fan accumulates some dust. Quick shot from an air can and the problem goes away. I know you said you have numerous fans, but are they set up properly as far as intake and exhaust?
