    My computer

When I go to "system properties" It says:

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
    6300 @ 1.86GHz
    1.59GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

Am I in need of an upgrade? Do I need more ram?

Are you lagging and what OS and Video card are you running? You might be fine with that for a while if you have anything above an 8800GT or so. 2gb of ram is OK in XP but Vista I recommend 4.

    Re: My computer

Nah, I'm not lagging at all. The only problem I'm having are the same grapical anomalies/spikes that I've always had here and there for the past year and half. I've discussed the whole video card thing. I pretty much know I need a new video card, it's a 7900. Adjusting the fan speed doesn't really work anymore. Last night I was running around on CSS, when I turned a corner, I went blind as I saw these grapical planes come out of a single point, lmao. it's funny, sometimes you'll see me running sideways...

I have 2 gb of RAM and I have XP. I'm using 2/4 slots on my motherboard so if I stick with XP then I pretty much just need to get the video card.

Here's my question, would there be any reason why my motherboard won't accept a certain PCIE card or as long as it has a PCIE slot it should accept all PCIE cards?

OK, I pretty much have my heart set on buying an Nvidia 295, when I clicked the buy it option, I'm listed with many more options. I was originally assuming that there would only be multiple manufacturers, do different 295's have different stats as well?

I've seen: BFG Tech, PNY, Zotac, ASUS, MSI

    Which manufacturer should I get?

My old 7900 is a BFG Tech, heating issues at a young age makes me compelled to stay away.

eVGA. I did not see it on your list but I am sure they make one. Their warranty, and step-up prgram as well as quality make them well worth it.

    Re: My computer

A little more RAM and a CPU upgrade might be in order also. That CPU, while a Core 2 Duo, is pretty slow... WHat Mobo do you have?

Gosh, I don't think I've ever learned how to identify the motherboard. I bought the system brand new about 3 years ago. It was a HP. Not sure what it is now... hopefully it can take a cpu upgrade but I def have room for the ram.

I'm having trouble with that one too since the model number used to be on the old case. I'm using a completely new case... Where else is it written?

    heh...

It might say under the "Properties" of "My Computer" on the "general" tab. HP likes to put their little logo and some details in there sometimes...on Vista anyway...

OR, the Mobo has it's name stamped on it somewhere...if you wanna open the case.

On this mobo (which is an HP mobo) it is the "P5....." You will see some code looking thing in larger letters it may also contain numbers...
