Need INPUT.. PC rebuild
Hey guys,
Some of you know that my PC went out and I just heard back from the repair shop. The reason it went out is no ventilation (or not enough) . My mother board went out along with my video card. They said my power supply is a little iffy so they would like to replace that as well but can put my old one in but with no guarantees. This is what they told me price wise and I just need to know if that sounds about right or if there are any questions I need to ask.
New parts and $$:
video card $ 200
Power Supply $ 150
Motherboard $ 150
Case $ 100
Labor $ 120
___________________
TOTAL $ 720
My computer was originally bought from Best buy and was not very roomy. When I switched out the power supply (a while back) there just wasn't enough room to handle the extra wires and such. Basically I had too much stuff in a small area and it fried. :-The motherboard I had was a Miro board and they will be installing a Full board and getting me a case that I can GROW into ..LoL My hard drive is still working and in good condition so they will be using it .
Good Price(s) ?
Ask any more questions?
Thanks Guys
~Dusty

you might as well go with a completely new build if all that died.

If the motherboard went out, I'd be suspect of the processor & ram then as well. Anytime you have a massive failure due to heat or whatever, you risk other pieces being fried as well. You can get a good power supply for under $100. If the $150 includes a processor and RAM, then that might not be bad, but a motherboard you can likely get for under $100 as well (depending on your processor.) $100 for a case isn't bad, depending on what you're buying. I'd ask for more details such as the models and whatnot they would use, so you could do some comparative pricing online. For $720 you could build brand new PC yourself and probably end up with better stuff.

Re: Need INPUT.. PC rebuild
We're going to need to know what parts exactly the repair shop is putting into that system to tell you if you're getting your money's worth.
But just a guess...you are not, especially if you are getting new parts of what you originally had. With $720 you can build yourself a pretty powerful system (or even get Bigdog to do it).

Re: Need INPUT.. PC rebuild
Here's stuff that most likely similar to your old video card and power supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130325
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371015
So as can you see there's quite a generous mark up on your parts.

Re: Need INPUT.. PC rebuild
Either do the work yourself (it really isn't hard),or ship what you need to ...bigdog...,and have him build you a new rig. For $700-$1000,he could build you a kick-ass new system.
Just as an example:
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 $100
Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 $100
Vid Card : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102830 $200
Cpu/Motherboard Combo Deal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.197501 $330
Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145197 $100
That is +- $800 in parts (I think there were some rebates in there I missed) for a whole new rig minus a hard drive and dvd drive (both of which you have). Add whatever ...bigdog... charges (if you don't feel comfy doing it yourself) .....I think it is about 10%,so another $100..and you are good to go. That would give you MUCH more bang for your buck, and MUCH more room to grow. ...bigdog...would probably be able to build you even more than I have listed here, but I just wanted to give you an idea....I just wouldn't throw $750 into "fixing" your old one, when for just a little more,or maybe even about the same $,you could start new.
