    Jinx and Co...

Finally need to update my computer. I currently have a X2@3800 (1.8GHZ I think) with 2 GB of RAM (Old sytle) that seems to be chugging along. I am going to take out my PS (800Watt Rosewill) and VC (8800 GT) and scrap the rest.

What do you think? Will I see a big improvement?

    Cart comes out to $339.97.

If you need to save some cash go with the low end asus mobo's or gigabyte.

    Will...

I'd recommend getting one of the Socket AM3 Phenoms if you're going to go that route... AM2+ is the 'old' platform at this point... It'll cost you more money because there isn't a combo... but it'll give you more upgrade options in the future.

That'll mean you'll need to go with DDR3 memory

You could go X2, X3 or X4... whichever best fits your budget.

This is one of the better 'budget' AM3 boards out there although that's an open box, so YMMV:

As you can see I only upgrade the processor about once every 3-4 years so by that time the AM3 will probaly have moved on.

I am lookingfor the best upgrade for MB/Processor/Memory/and case for ~350.00.

    Thanks

Well here it is. Mobo is good so you can upgrade cpu/gpu later on if you need to.

    Re: Jinx and Co...

One is probably reporting true clock (which is 900MHz) and the other is reporting effective clock (remember that DDR has two data cycles per clock cycle) of 1800MHz.

    Get the 1GB version.

Interesting that the 1GB version is....cheaper.

That is why I was so confuzzled.
