    FSB?

Been having slow issues from my pc lately and figured I had nothing left to loose, so I went into the bios and changed my FSB from 100 to 133. And everything seems much better now.

Is that possible? I don't know jack about FSB, when I try to read about it on the web, I just get more confused. I know that my MOBO can go up to 400 FSB, but what does that mean anyway?

Did increasing the FSB to 133 really help? And, can I up to 200 without frying anything or messing anything up?

You need to give a little more info, but the short answer is that yes it can increase stability by lowering your FSB. This stability can come from either "underclocking" a part (running it at less than it's stated speed) or by simply running it at the speed it was intended to run at. Higher speed=higher temp=higher electromigration=more chance for stability problems.

In regards to your question about the 400mHz claim for FSB, this is simply an internal multiplier of your base FSB. For instance, an Athlon XP running at 1.3 gHz on a 100 mHz fsb has a multiplier of 13x (100mHz FSB x 13 = 1.3 gHz). Your 400 mHz fsb is using multiple channels to get their 400mHz number.

    Anyways,

    What chipset are you running?

    What processor?

This information will help diagnose your issue better.

I have an amd athlon 2800 with an asus a7n8x2 rev 2 mobo.

It's the Mobo that (on box) says it can go 400 FSB. I have no idea what it was originally, as some configurations may have been changed accidentally a few months ago.

basically... if your machine's default was 100... and that was correct for your cpu... You just overclocked your machine by 33%. You should run core temp (google "core temp.exe") and make sure you aren't running hot.

I don't know if 100 is the default or not, that is what it was on before I upped it to 133. Some settings may have been accidentally changed a few months ago, but I really don't know.

CPU temp is running 51 idling and 53 playing BF2.
    MB temp is running 32

50+ is pretty warm but not bad. Basically I wouldn't be comfortable with a cpu running hotter than about 65c. So you should be ok with 133.

    Re: FSB?

Your motherboard should autodetect the fsb. I would set your mobo to factory defaults and then load into the OS and run cpuid, http://www.cpuid.com/

Post some screenshots of your cpu, mainboard and memory. Only then can you start to determine if you can overclock your system.

You want to try to make sure that your cpu and memory are running at the same fsb because if not, you will always have a bottle neck of data transfer between one or the other. Don't overclock one without overclocking the other.

An Athlon 2800+ should have a fsb of 333 but it sounds like your board is capable of dual channel 400 Mhz. I don't see where or why your mobo would be reporting 100 Mhz

    Re: FSB?

Your fsb is where it's supposed to be for that chip. But your multiplier is wrong. You are running slower than you should be. The 2200+ is supposed to be a 13.5 multiplier. Bump your multiplier up.

    Re: FSB?

So, 133 is what my FSB is supposed to be at, per mobo and cpu specs?

Can you tell me why does it say FSB is rated 266 on the cpu page? Also, on the
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/3339/spd1.png page, it lists timing frequency as 166 & 200 mhz. What does that mean. Or rather, is that normal?

How do I change the multiplier? Do I need another 3rd party progarm?

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I really appreciate em.
