Win 7 RC- Impressions on a crappy PC

    Specs:

    ABit KN8 Ultra (Socket 939)
    AMD Athlon X2 3800+
    BFG nVidia 7300
    512Mb Patriot DDR400
WD 320Gb Caviar SE 7200 RPM 8Mb buffer

All I can say so far is... WOW! Until I turned on aero it ran pretty smooth! Once I turned on aero... not so smooth.

I haven't tried any gaming yet but I have a feeling based on it having such a small amount of RAM, it won't be a good experience but I'll keep you guys updated.

I'm guessing Microsoft actually accomplished what they were trying to do and make it a viable OS for whatever you have! I'm tempted to take out the 3800 X2 and install a 3700 single core and see what the difference is but I have a feeling it'll run better since there is more cache on the 3700 then the 3800 X2. The again, Win 7 is suppose to optimize multiple cores better.

My specs are almost identical to yours.

    Abit KN8 SLi
    AMD Athlon X2 3800+
    XFX nVidia 7600GT
    4Gb G Skill DDR 400

    (just more ram)

The beta ran smooth for me. So, I'm betting if you throw some more RAM in there, it will run much better.

I am running it on a Opteron 140 Socket 939 with 2 GB of RAM and a GTS 8800 and it runs butter smooth with all the visual features enabled.
It is very nice for gaming too.

ram is cheap enough nowadays... you should up it to 2x 1g sticks ... be a good reasonable upgrade to extend that system's life, also as said let the visual goodies work
