About Ready To Upgrade - Could I Get Your Opinion?
All,
I'm about ready to upgrade my current computer to better play BF2. I just upgraded to a 24 inch Samsung LCD and it's been about 2 years since my last PC upgrade. Could I get your thoughts on the below items for my home PC?
I have an existing full Tower Lian Case that this will fit easily into:
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103692
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131366
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145224
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171022
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130504
CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103057
Total: ~$1,300.00
My goal is to create a very fast, but not bleeding edge gaming rig. Anything major I'm missing or any components contained in this list you'd NOT recommend?
Thanks as always.

I will repeat what has been said pretty much non stop the last month or two in this forum. There is no better deal right now than the i7 920 for gaming. It can be had for $199 if you shop around. The memory you have linked there is designed for it. Pair it up with an Intel X58 MB and with that gtx 295 you will be screaming even faster for the same amount of money you listed save 50 on CPU and spend 50 more on a x58 MB. It's a win win.

I would have to agree with the i7/x58... But I would say that you get more bang for the buck with ATI cards right now (that may change in six months but right now.......)
Any way you look at it you are getting a good system.

for BF2? Man, that's alot more than you need for BF2. A $500 system can max out BF2(e5200, gtx260, decent p45 chipset motherboard[DFI, ASUS, or Gigabyte]2-4 gigs DDR2 ram).
What you have listed out will play crysis at the highest settings @1920*1200(I know, I just built a system for a friend very simular to what I listed). Yes, your build will be a kick ass system, but if it's only for playing BF2, your wasting money(you'll never use all it's power playing BF2).

Re: About Ready To Upgrade - Could I Get Your Opinion?
All,
Thanks very much for the advice. While I will be using this for BF2 right now (that's all I play) I want to have it relatively "current" for the next 2 years playing games.
Phyrelight - thanks for your advice. Coudl you do me a favor as on NewEgg there are lots of mobo's in the config you describe. Could you like me to a few mobos, and the CPU you're referring to on www.newegg.com so I don't screw it up and buy the wrong one? I will go with your recommendation.
Sorry but I've been out of the PC upgrade game for a bit and want to get everything just right. Also will the CPU cooler I've chosen work for the Intel Chip you recommend or should I go with another? If you suggest another could you link that as well?
Thanks again everyone.

It's a bit pricer than phyrelight makes it out to be, but it's worth it I think...

Microcenter is still running the i7 920 for $199.

You'll need location local to you, but it's a nice savings.

Re: About Ready To Upgrade - Could I Get Your Opinion?
I thought that I would chimein as I just built a i7 that screams for sub $1000...
i7 920 Can't be beat...
Any X58 MOBO you like...Check out tomshardware.com for specs. I went with Gigabyte and have had nothing but greatness and overclocks very well on air.
The PSU is way overkill unless you are running 2 GTX 295's. Go with a good 750 Watt for $100.
And even TOM's says the 295 is way overkill. I believe the 4850x2 comes close for $300 less. You have to remember that anything over 60 FPS at the low end is overkill. Once DX11 comes out next year you will ultimately want a newer card. I would go with the GT 260 or ATI 4890. Both great cards and will take you into DX11 for only $200 or so.
Just my $.02
