    Suggestions

I've built the last 3 boxes for my gaming pleasures, with the last one being almost a year and a half ago. I don't constantly read up on the newest hardware in between, so I try to catch up when it's time for a new rig. I've been looking around and with what I can salvage from my old box all that I will need is a new processor, mobo, ram, video card, and power supply. Here is what I'm looking at right now. Bear in mind that I'm not interested in AMD at all, I'm an Intel guy. Sometimes I don't look long enough for the absolute best deals, but I try to research things as best I can. Let me know what you think - especially if you have any of these pieces to my puzzle.

I dont think you need a 1000W psu. Seems a little excessive to me. I think you might do better with a 750.

Also, the size of your mobo concerns me. It strikes me as a little...small. Too compact for all the stuff your packing into it.

What kind of HD are you using? What OS? What size is the case? gaming small, medium or large?

I'm not up to date on mother boards or powersupplies either, but the processer and video card look like solid additions. They've got quite a bit of raw power and seem as though they'd be great parts. (I'm an intel guy as well hahha)

    Awesome.

If you have the cash to drop on it, have you checked out Intel's Solid State Drives? They are a pretty solid buy as well.

You think 750 will do the trick?? I'm not well versed in psu's, so I'll look for one a little smaller.
I have 2 options for my HD - one is a hitachi deskstar 82 gb sata, or a seagate barracuda 120 gb sata. OS will be XP. I'm pretty sure the case is a mid-tower.
Looking at your other post about the mobo - I thought the same thing. It seems kinda small, but it seems to have everything I need on it. I'm not using dual video cards, and it matches the memory I'm going to use. I guess the upgrade down the road options may be diminished by this board, but it also keeps me from having to buy a new box. I gotta admit, I did look at that evga mobo you posted, and I have evga on my current rig - no problems at all. I just don't know if the price difference is worth it. I only use my rig for browsing, gaming and gaming some more. No video, or heavy program stuff at all. It is just my pleasure box (stop laughing - you know what I mean ).

OK - I just double checked and the board I chose doesn't support the memory I want. I'll start looking some more. I did find a smaller psu for $70 less, so now I can move that money to a better mobo.

I would LOVE to get one of those babies.......but it just adds too much to the cost of my rig.

To be honest, I am just starting out on building however I have been keeping up with this board. You would be suprised what you can learn here.

If your not going to have a large HD, and your primary focus is gaming....with the RAM CPU and vidcard...the 750 should be fine. Another guru want to make sure?

You know, to be honest after looking at that mobo I was like....wow...thats got some nice stuff...maybe when I upgrade.

I would go the Core i7 route. Spend a little more on the cpu/motherboard and you will be a lot faster, and more "future proof". Building a rig today, the i7 is the only way I would go.

Pote is right....you won't need 1000 Watt PSU if you are only running one card. Save a little cash there (ftr) Newegg has the Corsair 750w on sale this week for $120. Corsair makes GREAT PSUs.

Micro Center has the i7 860 on sale for $230

Put that together with a decent MB....and you have a SCREAMING machine.
