Trouble with internet connection
I'm having an extremely hard playing online games right now because my wireless connection keeps messing up.
Starting about two weeks ago, every 10 minutes or so in a multiplayer game, my ping will start to grow. It'll dribble in and peak around 800 (I've actually hit as high as 1,250 in Call of Duty 4). If I'm not kicked in time, after 5-10 minutes it'll start to dribble down back to normal. But then it'll randomly go up again later. It's excessively hard to play online when this is happening, and I've been kicked from more than a few servers because of this.
Does anybody have any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

Re: Trouble with internet connection
Hmm. Someone could be leeching your wireless signal and downloading stuff with it? Do you share your connection with anyone knowingly, and what kind of encryption do you use? (Hint: WEP can be cracked in about 10 minutes. WPA is where it's at, as well as MAC address filtering.)

Re: Trouble with internet connection
Hey hardware gurus, I moved this here so you can help a brother out. Let's get Dumple back in his game!
Ping that high sounds like a torrent... especially if it comes and goes and slowly grows.
Do you share your connection with anyone? Are they using a torrent or other file-sharing system?
If no one is using it (that you know of) make sure you are using a secured wireless network and maybe change the password. And I do prefer playing on a wire...but if someone is stealing bandwidth that will still effect you. (Most wireless routers have wired connections too, thats how I roll, gaming rig and file server on the wire, and the other stuff on the wireless).

OK.. Read more.. hah, you had already answered my questions!
Like Iron said, make sure you are encrypted and using WPA.
Let us know if that helps...
The next step might be to look for malware that might be doing something with your network...
