Media PC Dead???

Went to turn it on and no video feed on the LCD or DLP. I did the standard un hooking and hooking back up. Monitors respond by trying to come on so I think they are getting some form of signal. At first I suspected that the GPU may be toast and I have another to test it. After messing with it a bit I am starting to think it is something else. When I power up I do not hear the hard drive doing anything at all. It is like the rig is not booting. Even with a bad hard drive I should still get a post screen right? I suppose the GPU may be dead but I am starting to suspect the MB or CPU. I am about to swap the GPU out and will check back here when I am done.

Thoughts?

I swapped the video card out with no change. I am leaning towards CPU or MB. I suppose I could swap the CPU out of my gaming rig to test but damn I hate doing that.

Swapped CPU's with no change. MB must be dead...... If I order a MB I feel like I need to go ahead and get a CPU as well.

LOL at Nuck.... reading through this post it seems you were having a conversation with yourself.

May as well update the CPU and the MoBo, seems like you use it enough to justify an upgrade for it.

not sure about an upgrade, a media PC doesnt need a great deal of horsepower... If it was working for you you may just replace the mobo. Its not like DVDs are going to suddenly get more CPU intensive...

I did not do much of an upgrade. My wife also uses it for work and photo editing.

Seems like overkill for a media PC but hey, throw a bad ass video 5800 ATi card in there and play Batman on the Bigscreen

That mobo actually comes with a PS/1 input? DAMN...I thought they fazed those out. 6 USB slots on the board with what looks like a 5.1 integrated sound card. That should be able to hold you for a while. Plus, if you use the Antec 900 case, you get another 2. You wont be hurting for USBs ports, thats for sure. Got the firewire port so that should be for your wife moving pics and movies into it. If possible, get one of those internal 5 in 1 or 15 in 1 media card readers. Probably help with those SD cards. Been thinking of getting one myself but, I am just not sure which one to get.

You mean ps/2? Eventually they will dump it, but some bios have issues with USB prior to windows loading

And Pot - no self respecting Media PC would be caught dead using onboard 5.1 sound... Get yerself a HDMI capable sound card man!

True on the HDMI, but you would need a surround sound system that takes HDMI. That mobo doesn't have an HDMI output. Plus, what point is a HDMI surround sound without a HDMI picture coming from the vidcard? What kind of vid card you got there Nuck?
