Ventrilo issues with BF2

I have Vent issues... Mainly I can use vent outside of BF2, when I'm in.... Nothing. I can hear the people in there just can't PTT without alt-tabbing to the desktop... I found out too that I can open mic it by holding ptt then jumping into BF2 but no-one wants to hear me play - thats just distracting

So my question to the Tech-genius masses is: Help! Any ideas are good... I have Windows 7, I have tried running Vent in compatibility mode for Vista. Like I said any ideas would be grand.

Simple solution. Use VoIP.

Is there a VOIP option in Vent? The reason I use vent is for the {HRD} vent....

He does. Many people also hang out in Vent to chat between rounds. We also use it on our Monday Night Raids.....some of the servers don't have Voip,and it is also easier to coordinate everyone deciding on a server.

Not to mention other games we play that don't even support VoIP

I have the PTT setup on my mouse. I checked to see if anything is over-riding it and cant find anything.Thats the only idea I had...

In Vent, go to Setup and on the Voice tab, unselect "use Direct Sound" on the input device. Make sure you also try selecting your microphone from the list discretely, instead of using the default setting.

Also, go to the Sound control panel in Windows, on the Recording tab, select your microphone and hit Properties. Then on the Advanced tab, uncheck "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device". Hit OK.

This is the procedure in Vista, I don't imagine they've changed everything around drastically since then.
