    Sound Blaster Compatible?

How do I know if my sound card, in my case an on-board C-Media CM6501 Like Sound Device, is Sound Blaster compatible? I used to use a Sound Blaster card with this box but it gave me all sorts of problems. It got even worse with the new drivers. When I uninstalled it and went with the on-board audio the system remained stable. I want to play BF2 again and download it from Steam, but I noticed that the sound requirements say "Sound Blaster Compatible".

Am I out of luck with my on-board sound card and if so, can you recommend a non-Sound Blaster card that would work for me?

I'm running XP with an Asus M2N-E SLI board. AMD chip.

    Thanks!

When you had issues before, was the on-board sound enabled while you were using the SB card?

    What card were you using?

Sound Blaster compatible originally was the name assigned to the audio medium...

These days any sound card should work. I myself use an X-Fi card. I've had realtek onboard sound that worked fine too.

    Re: Sound Blaster Compatible?

I had my on-board sound disabled when I was using my X-Fi Sound Blaster Card. I think I'll try a non-Sound Blaster card and see what happens.

I downloaded BF2 via Steam last night and now Steam won't even launch for me today. I'm not having a good computer week. Maybe it's time for a new rig.
