    MAC USERES, I SUMMON THEE.

    Hey fellas/fellettes,

I know there are some mac users amongst our numbers.

I have my final interview with Apple on Friday and I just need some quick tips on some of the latest MAC stuff. Mainly these focus areas; Like what makes the new Snow Leopard OS so bad ass?? what are the benefits of iLife '09 and iWork '09?? and how do certain apps tie in together and can collaborate with each other?? what are some of the handiest apps out there?? what's so different and special about the new Mac Book and iMac that were released today?? etc..

Any input from our Mac users would be greatly appreciated. I am somewhat familiar with OSX, but not to the point of me feeling 100% totally confident I will assure them I am as knowledgeable as they'd like me.

Thanks for any input guys. It means a lot.

Just read and repeat the marketing drivel from their web pages.

    The new iMac

The ultimate all-in-one. Now with the ultimate display.
Backlit LED display. It's the new new in TVs/monitors. Looks like the most major update to the Macbook as well.

I wouldn't say that Snow Leopard is "bad ass." I have a pretty large bias against Apple so keep this in mind. It is definitely a great operating system. It is based off of Unix (and I love anything based off of Unix). It is a very fast OS and definitely a superior choice for the casual user. Of course this OS is ruled out as soon as graphics (gaming) come into play. I don't have much experience with iLife or iWork. I only use OSX on my PC.

The new iMacs are using i7s and i5s now. They are usually a little slow to adopt new technology. I have lots of friends who swear by OSX, but they usually turn to bootcamp as soon as they need to get some work done (funny, huh?)

If I were you I would get my hands on a copy of OSX and play around with it. Learn it and get comfortable with it.

The new iMACs have bigger screens too. The 20" iMAC is now 21.5" and the 24" iMAC is now a 27"

    This ^

The only way you can compete in knowledge with those who know the product is to actually use it yourself.

See if you can find a mac to play around with.

Re: MAC USERES, I SUMMON THEE.

I've been borrowing my wife's stripper friend's macbook with OSX Leopard on it for over a month now. It has iLife and iWork 08 on it and I have most of those programs down. I just wanted to know if there were any significant differences in 08 and 09. Mac's support site is actually the answer to everything I need to know. And there a plethora of youtube tuts to go off of too. This is cake.....iWork is essentially Mac's version of Office. Pages = Word, Numbers = Excell etc... etc... iLife is just iphoto, imovie, iweb, and garageband. All very easy to operate. I think I've got be a new job folks. Final interview is tomorrow :9 :9

    Thanks guys.

Oh and Vectus, here is one reason Snow Leopard is the shit:

    Introducing Grand Central Dispatch.

Grand Central Dispatch (GCD) in Mac OS X Snow Leopard addresses this pressing need. It’s a set of first-of-their-kind technologies that makes it much easier for developers to squeeze every last drop of power from multicore systems. With GCD, threads are handled by the operating system, not by individual applications. GCD-enabled programs can automatically distribute their work across all available cores, resulting in the best possible performance whether they’re running on a dual-core Mac mini, an 8-core Mac Pro, or anything in between. Once developers start using GCD for their applications, you’ll start noticing significant improvements in performance.

Grand Central Dispatch is extremely efficient at what it does. It dynamically scales the workload of an application to account for the number of processors in the computer. And it makes applications more efficient by using only the number of threads required for the work being done. For example, without GCD, if an application needs 20 threads when at maximum capacity, it might set up 20 threads and consume the associated resources even when it has nothing to do. GCD, by contrast, frees resources when it’s not using them, helping to keep the whole system more responsive. Imagine the efficiency and performance gains if every application on your Mac were using GCD.
    intriguing
