all GPS's should be like this. I was wondering why the hell my car, with it's GPS guided navigation system, isn't interfacing with yahoo or google maps, downloading satellite photos of places I go in the background, and updating the map by itself. why the fuck do I have to go get a DVD and upload new map info and contacts, when my car should be looking that shit up through my internet phone and bluetooth.

the man....always trying to keep my shit broke.

He's said that because this is for Verizon. They are the first ones to get this.

I hope the myTouch gets this soon.

Generically any Android 2.0 phone gets this as it's part of the general software stack. The Verizon model is just the first one.

McStrange if you want to go with Verizon, here's the phone to do it with:

I have not owned a fancy phone yet, but if I were to get one it would have to support tethering out of the box. From what I've read, Verizon charge extra to use your phone for tethering, even when already paying for a data plan. Which is bullshit, but not surprising since in my experience Verizon loves to cripple hardware which you are paying for. They got sued (successfully) once years ago for making a user pay to enable bluetooth communication between his phone and computer for local only data transmission.

That's like selling someone a car and then making them pay to use the glovebox for storage. Fuck any company that operates like that.

Find an American cell phone company that doesnt cripple the phones they sell.

America gets dicked in the ass cell phone wise compared with Europe and Asia.
