Windows 7 and Norton360
I'm trying to install Norton360 on my computer. I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 ultimate x64.
The install goes smooth. After the update, and restart, it wont run. I can't even open the program.
Here are some screen shots of what I've got.
This is what it says before you run the install.

After the install, right before the update.

After the update, prompting to restart.

After the restart. No icon in system tray. Can't open the program. But, the "action center" pops up saying something about my antivirus. Then it asks me to show the antivirus programs installed on my computer. And that's what I get above.
Please help me figure this one out.

Re: Windows 7 and Norton360
The only thing I can say about Norton is... Uninstall ASAP.
Try Kaspersky, Webroot, or Microsoft Security Essentials.
Just speaking from experience, I see more client's come back for virus removals with Norton than Kasperksy, Trend, Webroot, or MSE/OneCare.
In regards to helping your situation, Norton 2010 might be more compatible with Windows 7.

I can tell by the UI you are using an old version of 360.

I understand it's not necessary, but they are just starting to clean up their act. I can't tell you how many people have bitched about these same things. This is why they WERE rated very low.
As far as virus removal tools. I have scanned the honeypots using updated editions of Norton, Trend, MSE, Kaspersky, and Webroot. Norton picked up the lowest amount of viruses compared to the others.
I cannot attest to Norton 2010 as I have no used it. It has been given some higher ratings due to the ease of use and the fact that it doesn't take up half of your resources anymore.
Again, this data is from personal studies and personal use. Take it with a grain of salt if you will. It is a message board and I thought I might shed my opinion on the matter.
EDIT: I would like to know where you witnessed the increased protection of Norton 2010. The retail version of this product has only been out a short amount of time. Do you do AV reviews or have you set up a few honeypots of your own?

Re: Windows 7 and Norton360
I like Norton360 because of all the disk cleanup and temp file deletion. I'd do it through windows, but it's so much quciker/easier to hit one button and it does everything.
Find me an AV that does all that as well. And I'll try it out. I'm not a Norton fan-boy; it's just the only one I've found that I really like. McAfee was alright.

Re: Windows 7 and Norton360
if you own a copy of norton 360 which still has time left on it you can actualy download the newest version of the client from Norton. This usualy wont have the compatibility issues that you are having. Simply put in your existing reg key once you install and if you have say 90 days left on it the key will work.
I bought Norton 2009 9 months ago, but I installed the download of 2010 from Norton's website and was able to use my 2009 key, it gave me the correct expiration date on it.
I have had 0 customers with windows come to me and ask for removal of norton 2009 or 2010. Symantec did an amazing job of reinventing their A/V security suite to be quick and as problem free as anythign I have ever seen. Of course I don't use 360, and neither do any of my customers, so my advice may not help as much. I still think newest build of 360 is going to work better.

I also just thought of this. Instead of downloading the trialware you can goto their support page and find instructions on downloading a client there. I believe you just need a mynortonaccount.com account. Otherwise the trialware can easily be used then just put your reg key in it.
