    So i'm building a computer...

Well actually i haven't got the parts yet, thats why im posting here.

the plan is to take advantage of the sales at frys on the day after thanksgiving to lower the cost of this little project.

so why am i writing this here? well im stil trying to figure out what to put in the damn thing.

case=who cares, as long as it holds the stuff.

MoBo= really need some help here, one downside of meing a mac person is you never really get into the guts of the comp

    HD= i have a spare .75TB drive i'll use.

Processor = Need some suggestions on this.

    Graphics card = ? mayby a Nvidia 7600gt?

PSU= does it really matter, as long as it can handle the load? NOTErobly go with one built into the case.

    Sound card=

network card= i have a N level wireless network so i'll need to match that.

    am i missing anything?

pleas a little help on this.

    You're definitely a Mac person, Jonas. :P

Can a mod please move this to the PC Hardware and Technology forum. We'll get Mac boy squared away.

First off do you have a really strict budget or something? Let's start with the graphics. A 7600?, I don't recommend anything below the 8800GT and that is minimum. For power just make sure it handles the load but they don't come with the case. I picked mine because it has individual cords so you only have to run what you need. It cuts down on clutter in the case. Motherboard/processor depends on $$ you want to spend. I wouldn't worry about a sound card, onboard sound will be just fine.

What is your budget for this build?

Important, you've got to look at it forever once its done. Mid-size, full-size, air flow consideration?

I find its generally better to decide on the processor first and then go to compatible mobos.

I'd say buy a smaller hdd for your main system drive and use the 750 as a storage drive.

I'll admit that I'm an Intel fanboy. The Core i7 processors are pretty hot right now.

If you're going slightly older Nvidia, go 8800gt or 9800gt. You're a game man, tell us how much money you have first and we'll recommend you a good card.

Quality, you get what you pay for. What will be the max load of the build?

802.11n, gotcha, no prob. What about optical drives? After-market heat sinks? You're forgetting memory too.

    lol.

nvidia 7600gt?! that was before i even started gaming lol.

a good evga or asus motherboard
    i7 processor (any)
    ATI 5870
Creative Sound Blaster Titanium pro fatality series
    4gigs of ddr3 ram

    you're good to go.

Re: So i'm building a computer...

Crap. I just erased everything. Okay. Again.

Case matters. You have to have enough fan ports so you don't get too hot. Make sure they're BIG fan ports, too.
Power Supply matters. Enough power for fans, motherboard, DVD/CD drives, HDD, you see where I'm going.
Sound: Creative has good sound cards that are relatively inexpensive. Make sure it has virtual surround. Turns ear-buds/phones into... virtual surround. I have... well, it's pretty good.
Video: eh...... My GeForce 8500 GT is pretty old, but overclocked up 225 MHz makes a difference. If it's an Nvida chip, RivaTuner is a very useful overclocking tool. I wouldn't worry too much about it if it's just for BF2/2142. But better cards are lower now, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Proccessor: Mine is almost 5, so don't ask me. I have Pentium D 2.8 GHz dual core. It could be faster, but for 2142, 2, TF2 and a little L4D, if you don't mind low-med graphics, it's not too bad.
Motherboard: At least as old as the proccessor, if not older. Don't ask me.
NiC: I have wired. Not the person to ask.
    You forgot memory?
    DVD Drive?
    Mouse?
    Keyboard?
    Monitor?
    Speakers?

Bugdet and power supply are important.

    Also, heatsinks, and fans.

Case is a HUGE decision. For more modern graphics cards you'll need a deeper case. Get an idea of what GFX card you want and MEASURE. I would recommend the Antec 900 case which a lot of TTP people use including me.

MoBo= really need some help here, one downside of meing a mac person is you never really get into the guts of the comp

Like Raven said, pick your processor first, THEN pick your motherboard

    HD= i have a spare .75TB drive i'll use.

It's it's 7200 RPM it's fine. If not, get a 7200 RPM. I'd recommend a Western Digital Black drive (Any size) or a Samsung Spinpoint drive.

Processor = Need some suggestions on this.

Intel's i7s are suppose to be amazing. They are a little too rich for me and I love my AMD Phenom II 955

    Graphics card = ? mayby a Nvidia 7600gt?

Seriously Unless you're going to eBay to get it, Fry's won't have it. Go with a GTX260 or ATI 4790 AT MINIMUM

PSU= does it really matter, as long as it can handle the load? NOTErobly go with one built into the case.

Your PSU is possibly one of the most important things. Since you don't know what you'll need, stay on big names. Corsair, Thermal Take... etc. Plan on at LEAST a 600w PSU

    Sound card=

Considering what Fry's has... go with a Creative card.

network card= i have a N level wireless network so i'll need to match that.

I'm very fond of D-Link products although I don't game wirelessly.

    am i missing anything?

Tons of stuff like Forquetsson pointed out but nothing performance specific, except RAM

pleas a little help on this.

Oh yeah, and you'll probably need an operating system. Windows 7 64 bit.

Re: So i'm building a computer...

thanks all for the great replys so far, forget what i said about the video card, don't know what i was thinking.

ram and os and such go without saying.

on than note, looking like my dads getting the family pack so were good there.

peripherals i already got but thanks.

    MAX budget $2000

on the note of the monitor that will not be included in the
as i have a gift coming my way that looks very screen like.

remember I AM A NOOB WHEN IT COMES TO THIS.

the i7 looks real nice but as cybs said, a bit rich.
