A valid point, however the advances in coding and harware utilization/maximization is limited by xp. vista, bleh and 7 have the ability to more efficiently maximize the hardware resources. Or at least thats how I am reading the explanation of upgrades in 7. Plus...new games may not be xp compatible anymore.

XP's old man. it's time.

the real issue is.... you can't just reinstall the OS on a laptop. Like a gateway or dell computer...they lock the hardware down with all sorts of custom drivers and shit that windows stock won't play nice with. It's a shot....but reloading the OS on a laptop is NOT a common thing to do. Restoring...sure....but not formatting and reinstalling.

Call the MFG of the laptop. They can get you a disk. Some you can download it from free, some they charge for shipping, and others charge a lot (Like HP).

One key per install. If you happen to have another key then yes, legally. Anything else is against the EULA.

Depending on what updates comes with the disk, you have 30 days or 3. After that, it will only let you authenticate or return you to the login screen.

That is stealing. It's a Volume Licensed Key which yes, there is no limit on how many times you install it although Microsoft does track it and will send a bill to the company that purchased the key. Again... it's stealing.

Most vendors are good about having drivers for all current operating systems. On my previous laptop, I reinstalled Vista using my DVD I purchased for my gaming rig. I used the Vista key code that was on a sticker on the laptop and it worked fine, once I got all the drivers downloaded & installed.

Well... those volume licenses are for use by the business they were licensed to. Generally using them outside said company is a violation of the EULA and thus, illegal.
