    Question: video editing

what is more important for the actual editing of videos. CPU or GPU?

I have a user that SAYS he wants to do high def video editing, but then you have to play with the unknown upper limits on budget. Since it has not been defined for me, I'm sure I can't go crazy with any system build.

So.... CPU or GPU? and if GPU, moderately priced recommendations??

CPU, HD movies take a shit fucking long time to render, the better the CPU the faster the render.

Laggy, as I mentioned in our PM's, I know the CPU is VERY important. I am not sure how important the GPU is... I almost think it is not important at all.

It only needs to be strong enough to display HD video for playback, so you can actually see what your editing. The rest is in the CPU.

That is ridiculous overkill on the video card. Probably would be fine with an 8800GT for under $100, but that is just a guess. Actually, no it's not. I have edited HD videos with my old 8800GT. Worked fine.

    Re: Question: video editing

and my constraint is that I am having to have this built and configured via Dell or HP. So, buying an add on video card and installing it is not a realistic option. It could morph that way, but at the moment, its off the table.
