If you don't keep your browser plugins up-to-date, you'll get nailed by just browsing a website with malicious code. Adobe is absolutely atrocious about their products not auto-updating. Couple that with swiss-cheese like security... it's always a quick/easy attack vector.
I use Secunia's Personal Software Inspector (PSI) from www.secunia.com. It scans your computer weekly and looks for out-of-date/unpatched software. Great product to do the job most vendors won't...

Would switching to Google DNS or Open DNS help?
The only reason I ask is because I read there are some DNSs from ISPs that have a ton of security vulnerabilities.
