On the market for a Laptop
Alright so with college coming up I have 2 options. I can either get the laptop for my birthday in January, or wait until June. The benefit to waiting is technology only gets cheaper the longer its out, the benefit to January is that its now and I'm impatient. Not sure of a budget, but lets try to keep it under $1000. This machine needs to be able to play games, CSS, TF2, L4D, HL2 those types- I don't need stunning graphics, but I'd like it to be pretty good. I'll be doing a good amount of video and image editing at school so a computer that can handle those programs well would also be excellent. I've looked through Dell and have found some decent things. A wider screen and lighter weight is obviously a plus.
Tips? Ideas?

Do you have a desktop now? I am a college freshman and here is the best advice I can give you: 1) Consider buying a netbook and using the saved money to upgrade your current computer. 2) If you must have a laptop, wait as long as possible to get it. 3) Consider the HP HDX16, that is what I am currently using and it is amazing. But it may be a little more expensive; consider using the summer to earn cash to make up the difference.

Gaming on laptops always sucks... even when you get the upgraded graphics card. My laptop had the m9600gs, which was the highest graphics card available from HP at the time, and it was terrible at running games. I mean, sure it would run them, but I had to turn down the detail to low on almost every game I played.
My friend got an ASUS and experienced the same thing. He thought for sure that a 2.2 GHz dual core w/ 4 GB DDR2 and a 9600gs would run left for dead... but nope.
