New TV

I am starting to have problems with my Mitsubishi DLP. I am on my third lamp and now I think my light engine is starting to fail. The set is 3 years old. I am in negotiations with mits to give me some help on it. If they give me enough cash I will have to go back with a Mitsubishi DLP. If they do not then this will be the last Mitsubishi I own for life.

All that said, any suggestions for 65" sets? I think I am done with DLP's all together because of their maintenance costs. Panasonic has plasma that is 65" and pretty cheap. I have never been a fan of Panasonic but recent reviews have been very well. I also see that Sony and Samsung make 65" LCD but they are about twice as much as the plasma. There are better options below 65" but my space requires that size to look good.

Thoughts?

Samsung DLP's are generally better rated than Mitsubishi. I love my Samsung LED DLP. I've had it for almost 2 years now and have had zero problems. My in-laws got a Mitsubishi and they have had the lamp replaced twice in the 3 years they've had it. But it was a traditional lamp vs the LED lamp used by newer models.

As for other options, Samsung has a nice 58" plasma that's very well rated by Consumer Reports. It's the top-rated plasma in the 54" and larger category. Model # is PN58B650. Average price is $2100

As far as LCDs go, LG, Toshiba, Samsung, Sony and Vizio all got good grades from Consumer Reports. The Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U scored really high and average price was around $2200.

Anything larger than about 55-58" in any format other than DLP seems to not be well received by the Consumer Reports folks.

I've had my 50" Panasonic(1080P) plasma for a couple of years now.....not one problem. It still looks as incredible today,as the day I bought it. When it first came out,Consumer Reports said it was the best looking tv they had ever tested.

My Dad has one that is a little older and 720P.....and he still loves his. He has also never had any problems whatsoever.

If a plasma is what you want,I would HIGHLY recommend a Panasonic.

That sucks. Is it this one? http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...0fp29849c0s441

I was thinking about that one because the price was half any plasma/LCD around that size. I read reviews that mentioned buying an extra lamp or 2 ($100) for the future and you are still set. My worry was the DLP's are few and Mitsu I think is phasing theirs out.

Yea I have an LG, Sony and Toshiba LCD already in other parts of the house. The LG is the best looking picture in the house right now but it is also the newest.

I just about cant live with anything smaller than a 65" due to the way I have things set up. I know 7" is not a huge difference but it will be with the way I have things as of now.

I really like the way that a 65" fills up my shelf fully and leaves very little space between my speakers and wall.

In looking at Samsung's site they no longer offer DLP and only offer LCD, LED and plasma. Maybe things will pan out and Mits will either replace my set or give me enough of a credit that it makes sense to just go back with their DLP. The picture has always been amazing but the quality on my last 2 Mits DLP's has been less than acceptable.

The current set I have is the WD65831 which has been replaced by the WD65837. The WD-65C9 is a watered down version of the Diamond line that was made for the big box stores. It has less HDMI ports and I do not think it is 3D ready.

Re: New TV

Samsung has some great looking 55" LCD LED back lit TVs. I think they are some of the best looking TVs out on the market. Here is a good one:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN55B8...4496129&sr=1-1

If you order it from Amazon.com, it does not show you the price until you go to checkout. Here is the pricing info:

* Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV
$2,399.99 - Quantity: 1 - In Stock
Condition: New
Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC

Compare this same TV bought at Best Buy, and you will be paying $400 more:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+...8000&cp=1&lp=1

I bought my last TV (46" Samsung LCD 120Hz) from Amazon. They delivered it with their "White glove" service, which they actually bring the TV into your house, turn it on, and make sure everything works before you sign for it. I was very pleased with this service. I highly recommend purchasing your next TV through Amazon because you will save hundreds of dollars in the end. Just go to Best Buy or your local retailer to check out which TVs you are interested in, then check Amazon for availability.

At this point, Nuckle, I would stay away from the DLPs. Sure, they give you a big screen for a good price, but the picture quality of the LCD back lit TVs is just incredible. Personally, I think they are on par with plasma, if not better in some cases. Plasma TVs have also been getting better at not having the "plasma burn" which drastically reduces the lifespan of the plasma TVs. Also, a 55" TV should have a couple inches of trim on the sides, unlike your DLD, so it should fit in your entertainment center quite nicely, only an inch or two to spare on each side.
