mic issue

I bought a new headset because one of the dogs ate them. Its the same model so nothing changed other than one set is new. Now the problem i have is no one can hear me in game or ts but the mic works on the realtek hd audio manager. So any ideas on what the hell happened. A side note in bf2 options audio it does not have the option high lighted for me to test the mic.

No ideas either huh. I even moved the headset connections to the back of the computer. Now when i test it it shows volume increasing but still it appears no one can hear me.

These are tough problems; I know because I've dealt with them. The thing that has me confused is that the audio settings in BF2 are greyed out. That indicates to me a problem with the BF2 installation, but I haven't played BF2 in so long that I can't remember the setup. Perhaps if you posted in the BF2 forum someone who had the same problem could help.

OK, deathgod, what is your OS? My thinking is that somehow the boost mic gain some how got switched off, maybe when it recognized a "new" hardware. (Don't ask me how or why it happened, but that would be my guess) Go into your control panel, sound option, recording, microphone properties, levels and make sure the boost mic gain is ALL the way up. Depending on the OS, MOBO or mic, it may be just a little box that says "boost mic gain".

I vaguely remember someone else having a similar issue and that solved it. I know I have had to do it in the past.

Well for what ever reason it started working on its own in ts but not in game. The voip button doesnt want to stay highlighted. So maybe a couple more smacks and it will all be working again properly.

Pote yeah all that stuff is good. The front mic port appearntly burned out so i moved it to the back.

Yeah, thats not surprising. If a port gets a lot of use, the chances of it burning out increases. As for the issue in game, while the VOIP BUTTON is pressed, ask if anyone can here you while disregarding the icon. I know BFBC2 doesnt have an icon, but i know people can hear me because, I could hear myself through Reskis' set up. (long story).

I'm starting to think i need to uninstall bf2 and reinstall it. The mic works fine with everything other than the game. The enable button stays highlighted but i still have nothing. Any ideas other than the reinstall?

Possible something is weirded out in the profile settings.
In My Documents->Battlefield 2->profile there is an audio.con file. Open this with notepad and check out the settings.

Few settings to consider looking at:

Possible, cannot hurt to change it over to 1 see if this makes any difference. (sorry was playing last night didnt come back to the forums)
