Counterfeit i7 CPUs Sold on Newegg

    Interesting read...

Needless to say, I will be staying away from Newegg until this mess is cleaned up. Newegg is a great company, but they need to take responsibility for who they do business with. Intel has already said the CPUs are counterfeit, so the claim that they are "demo" models is absolute bullshit. Nice cover-up, Newegg. I will be a Zipzoomfly guy for my next build.

It says they discovered they were counterfeit and canceled the relationship with the company. It doesn't look like they are trying to cover it up. The ex-partner company said they were demos.

I've been reading on this as I planned out my build these a past few days. Newegg originally stated it was a demo box. I think after a number of web sites began publishing the pictures that showed this was more than a demo box then Newegg changed their tune. Plus the confirmation from Intel that these were countfeits probally spurned them as well. It's an interesting story none the less.

Wow - I can't fault Newegg for trying to spin this public relations nightmare - it seems like they were legitmately victimized by a shady re-seller but they are responsible for the satisfaction of their customers - I dont see why they would lie about them being "demos".

If I were Newegg, I'd say "We find ourselves in the unenviable position of being both the victim of one distributor's illegal activities and also a party to the defrauding of our customers. We take full responsibility for the satisfaction of our customers and will take immediate action to remedy the integrity of our customers purchases and also take appropriate action in investigating who the true source of this deception is and ending that professional relationship. We take this situation very seriously and hope that our long-time customers will look beyond this isolated incident and continue to take comfort in our commitment to providing the highest quality computer components at competitive prices with exceptional customer service."

Doesnt really tarnish my opinion of them, they probably should have been straighter at first, but meh, its not like they are trying to screw people. From what i saw they had legit CPU out as soon as this was found out.

This isn't Newegg's first rodeo. They've been accused of bait & switching before as well. Overall, every vendor has their issues. Go out to resellerratings.com and you can find horror stories about ALL vendors. Not trying to defend Newegg's actions necessarily. As Consultant said they could have handled this a LOT better than they did. Overall, I've been extremely happy with Newegg over the years. I'll let 10 years of good service outweigh this.

Newegg will make it right. They have too good of a thing going not too. I have spent too much money there over the years with perfect service record for me to let this sway me.

    as will I.

and even then.....counterfeiting some nike air jordans is one thing....but how do you counterfeit a processor? If you have the means of doing that.....the technical means of getting it done.....then....why not go into the business yourself as a competitor?

reality is...Intel contracts with factories to produce these things, and then, in off hours and when no one is looking, the factory produces MORE than intel contracted to buy from them. So...they're sitting on a few 1000 high end processors, and they sell them on the side. Someone sold someone who sold someone something they didn't check out properly, and that made it to Newegg. Happens with everything made in china. Everything.
