    Re: New Build Problems

I got it all up and running, activated, etc..

I tried putting in the other RAM, but it does the same result. So, I'm taking it as that stick of RAM is bad. So now I get to send it back and be without a computer for about a week. Great.

Out of ALL of the builds i've done, this is the first time I've gotten something from Newegg that was DOA.

Memory in general runs that risk with any vendor. I've purchased bad RAM from Fry's as well as Newegg.

    Re: New Build Problems

Have you tried it with ONLY the stick that you suspect as bad? Just for one more data point.

    So try it with:

    a) only one stick
    b) only the the other stick
    c) both sticks

The results of these 3 tests SHOULD make it obvious what's going on.

I would do a BIOS update..... try that first before you consider the RAM bad...

On ASUS boards they should give you the option to update VIA the USB and a USB mem stick.

I checked the ASUS downloads for your board and there was a bios update from 3-5-2010..

Most boards do not come with the current BIOS updated.

Update it first and try your RAM one more time before you ship them.

    This is very good advice.

If he has tried EACH stick individually, and they both work separately, but not together, then yes maybe the BIOS needs to be updated (or even worse, we have a bad DIMM slot). This is why I asked that question above. But if the one he suspects as bad will not work by itself either, then that answers the question.

Of course, a BIOS update will never hurt, but it won't fix a bad stick (or a bad DIMM slot) either.

    Re: New Build Problems

The only reason I said to update your BIOS because that's what I have had to do with all my ASUS boards, especially when the i7 platform came out.

ASUS makes it easy to get your BIOS updated too.

    Where's the update, fool?!
