New Build Problems

It was the RAM. I went to Fry's and bought some cheapo 2 x 2GB DDR3 RAM and stuck it in and it booted up and runs just fine.

So I sent the RAM back to Newegg, and now I have to deal with the crappy RAM until I get the good shit back.

It's getting to the point that I want to answer every "My Proposed Build" thread with the following disclaimer: "You can build a great PC yourself, but you're probably going to have issues with your RAM, no matter which brand." I had to RMA my RAM when I built my rig last year, and so many of the new build threads in this forum end with RAM issues. As much as they're charging for RAM these days, the damned stuff ought to work!

It's cheaper now than it used to be... I remember paying a couple hundred bucks for 4 MEGS of RAM back in the day... That being said... there's a large failure rate of RAM, as well as Mobo/RAM conflicts. Certain brands of RAM work better with certain brands/models of motherboards. Some manufacturers have gone so far as to recommend specific brands/models of RAM for their motherboards.

I personally would go with G.Skill, Corsair or Kingston. G.Skill i love a lot, always get a heat spreader on the memory and very responsive. I've heard Kingston works great for video editing with an ASUS mobo, but you need to get the right memory.

Well, the RAM that was DOA was OCZ Reaper... The cheapo shit (well, not that cheapo) that I got from Fry's was Corsair.

Another reason why i never get OCZ, but every build is a learning experience, it really is.

It's just crazy... I've built around 5-6 computers, and this is the first time I've ever gotten bad equipment from Newegg. Out of ALL those times.

It was a good streak.

OCZ is not bad.

Sometimes you just get DOA ram.

Seems to be a pattern, i just got screwed over with a corrupt copy of Win7. I have to wait till next month to actually get it, its been 2 weeks already.
