    Pote's Rockin' New Rig

So Im going to be able to build a new computer for myself in the next 2-3 weeks for myself and I was wondering what you guys thought about my propesed specs. Im aiming for something that can support 3D display, HD quality picture, and high quality gaming. I already have a Seagate baracude 750GB 7,200RPM HD from my old computer that I am going to be using as the media storage device.

EDIT: I also have a 22" LCD TV that I will use as a second monitor.

    So....thoughts?

You would probably do better to get one big video card (a 4xx) than 2 little video cards. Especially because your monitor is not exceptionally large.

1920x1080 native res will take advantage of the SLI. You don't find many monitors that go above that res nowadays. You could go with dual ATI 5770s and save a little cash (approx $100, but you would need a different motherboard). You could put that extra money towards a nice and beefy 1.5 TB hard drive to store your stuff!

Should be a good rig either way.

All EVGA x58 boards support both SLI and Crossfire, says their tech support forum staff.

My vote for a video card however:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102888

Sapphire 5870 Eyefinity 6. 2GB of memory will stand you in good stead however many monitors you drive, and as a single-core, single-card solution you get to avoid all the idiosyncracies, inconsistencies, pain, suffering and general consternation of getting a multiple-GPU solution to work (and work well).

DX11 support for future-proofing, much better power usage both at idle and load (way better than you'll see from any SLI/Crossfire setup), and it's about $30 cheaper than the (aging) 260's.

    Re: Pote's Rockin' New Rig

Looks great but a few points ...

Video - I would agree with the video card upgrades recommended above. 260's are old tech.

Case - Have you seen the Antec 1200 case? It's huge! Even my 900 is quite large.

PSU - According to the Newegg PSU Calculator, the 850w is just adequate. But the 1000w would give you plenty of headroom, especially if you continue to expand. AND it's currently only $4 more!
    Antec 1000w $160 with free shipping, $140 after MIR - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371012

Fuck two 260. You might as well buy ham sandwiches and put them in there.
