05-22-10, 07:03 PM #1Wide Screen Monitors
Hi all, I am upgrading my monitors, and I have just decided not to go with 1080p widescreen monitors since well, I don't like the way they look, I mean don't get me wrong I love my 1080P LCD TV but I think 21.5" widescreen LCDs look funny, also my computer does not have a blu-ray drive, and will not for the foreseeable future, thumb drives do the job, and HDCP is annoying. I just don't like PC Games in 16:9 aspect. So is there something I am missing here?

Re: Wide Screen Monitors
Hahah that's the monitor I want too... so expensive though...
And for an IPS panel that's cheap.
Anyways I've heard both good and bad things about that panel. It has its issues, but the color reproduction is one of the best for its price class.Last edited by Bane; 05-23-10 at 05:47 PM.

I use 16:10, and I like it. I had this argument with a friend at a LAN party. He has a 23" 1920x1080 and I have a 22" 1650x1080. I decided that I like the higher res when on my windows desktop, but I actually preferred the lower res when gaming. Odd, I know.

Very very smart choice. Watch slickdeals.net and you can find bargains on the 2209WA. I paid about $430 total (shipped) for both of my 2209WA's together. Soooo happy with these displays. I hope Dell never stops making them. If they do I will buy a few more to stockpile for the future, I am serious. In 5 years if they are still mass producing TN-panel crap, an "old" 2209WA e-IPS will still wipe the floor with any other options.

Re: Wide Screen Monitors
You get accustomed to certain resolutions after awhile. Even for plain desktop application use. I know after 8 hours at work in front of a computer (which is constant reading/composing emails, reading graphs, viewing tables, on dual monitors that are 4:3) I get home and do something similar and my eyes take quite abit to adjust. Heck I played on a resolution that wasn't native inadvertently for awhile, and when i finally realized it and switched I was tempted to go back. But got use to it. I always recommend going native res as the contrast is loads better.
Regarding the monitor you linked Guyver, My next monitor is definitely going to be DeLL. They have quite a few models that support mounting arms to free up desk space. Right now I set my monitor on a really old school plastic riser that came with a computer from the 80s. Provides some space under the monitor and raises the top of the screen to just above my eyes (as it should be). But I'd prefer some room to adjust it better, especially with dual monitors. (wood shop desk project here we come)
