    You also might see if there's updated wireless drivers for your machine or updated firmware for the router.

    May be a g-only router to begin with, making assumptions here.

    Re: lag

    OK i know its computer related and not likely the cable modem or router. If i open resource monitor i can watch with nothing open other than start up items a massive spike every 56 seconds on the network screen. Now anyone have any ideas how to narrow down the culprit so i can get rid of it?

    Process Explorer off the microsoft sysinternals website. Suspend tasks until it stops.

    Would be that or do a netstat -ano in command prompt to determine what connections are being established by what process.

    Re: lag

    I would try ping in a cmd console on your computer.

    Code:
    ping 192.168.1.1
    if the packet loss is above 0% or average > 3ms it might be that the hardware on the router is dying. it happens.

    Standard Disclaimer: 150% of what I say is bullshit.

    Ping stattistics for 192.168.1.1:
    packets sent = 4, recieved=4, lost = 0 <0% loss>,

    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    minimum = 0ms, maximum = 2677ms, average = 669ms

    What the hell does that mean? The card is about 9 monthes old the router i bought yesterday.
