Speaker Recommendations
Right now I have the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 surround sound 500 watt speaker system. For the second time, the system has crapped out on me. First, the rear speakers stopped working over the summer and I was too cheap to get it fixed, and now the center speaker has stopped working. The cause is evidently something with the channel in the amp, which is screwed into the back of the sub and weighs about 40 pounds or so. To fix it, I have to ship it to Klipsch and pay 90 bucks. I have had it with this system. I have only had it two years and if I would have sent it in last time it broke and now this time, it has cost me 180 bucks since then just to have it operate. If I ship it in and pay the 90 bucks PLUS shipping, I will be without speakers for at least a month and most likely given the history of this system, will have to have it shipped in for repairs again sometime in the future.
Can someone recommend a high quality speaker system that I can use with my Audigy Soundblaster Z card that still has the base and volume these had when they actually work?
I use the PC speakers for everything...gaming, movies, music...I need some good speakers. Hopefully someone can recommend something. Thanks in advance.

I have owned all logitech sound systems and have never had a problem. I have the THX speakers and they rock. Great treble, deep bass and easy to use. they cost a bit more but they are worth it. Just read the user reviews

Bueller buy the speakers from best buy and get the product replacement plan.
My $50 logitech usb gaming headset have died 3 times in 2 years. They have been replaced all 3 times. The 3 rd time I had to spend $10 bucks on new PRP. Big deal."And the hits just keep on coming." - Tom Cruise, A Few Good Men

For 2.1 speakers, I recommend the following:
http://www.razerzone.com/Products/Ga...Desktop-Audio/
http://www.klipsch.com/products/deta...gmx-a-2-1.aspx
I prefer 2.1 sound for my computer games. The extra speakers mean extra wires, loss of extra space. Plus, I usually play with my headphones on anyways.
For 5.1 speakers, I recommend the following:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...CONTENTID=9486
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=10928
These are pricey for 5.1, but they both got decent reviews.
As for Altec Lansing...
I have looked at many Altec Lansing products over the past few years. I have never been impressed with the sound quality. Klipsch always blew them away. Logitech has really stepped up lately has a decent speaker company. The Razer set looks pretty sweet, but may be pricey for a 2.1 system.

I have these and they kick a$$. The sub is massive and when you crank it up you will not be disappointed.

I hate to hear about your problems with Klipsch.
I have Klipsch promedia 2.1's on my computer
My home theatre:
Klipsch Reference, RF3's, RS3's and RC3
Klipsch Synergy KSW12 Sub
Patio
Klipsh SPA3's
I have had flawless operation out of all of them for 5+ years and would not buy any other speaker.

Re: Speaker Recommendations
your klipsch speakers crapped out?
.....it doesn't get any more top of the line than klipsch.
I have always bought creative speaker systems. I currently have a 7.1 setup. Usually, they're only 7-10W/channel.....but when you're sitting 3-6 feet from 7.1 speakers, as most users at their computer are........having anything over 10-15W/channel is a COMPLETE WASTE OF POWER AND MONEY.
Same goes for home audio. It's a living room.......not an outdoor concert hall.

I am currently using a cheap 2.1 Logitech system. I just got rid of my Cambridge 4.1 system because the wires were simply a mess. I also had a Logitech 5.1 system that was too weak, so I sold it.
I have some Klipsch Epic CF-1 floor speakers pushed by a Harmon Kardon 240w receiver (120x2... nice power). I only use these speakers when listening to music, because movies are just too gosh darn loud.
I am in the process of getting a new receiver for my surround sound. I really want a Yamaha, but the only decent Yamaha receiver for HDMI is around $900. I may end up getting one of those package deals. We will see.
Anyways... back to computer speakers. I agree with bigdog, you dont need much power for your PC. And if you are gaming, get a good headset.

Re: Speaker Recommendations
I will disagree on the headset. Nothing can beat true surround. My CS boys can attest......sneaking up on bigdog is a near impossibility. Localization is key when you want to get the jump on someone. And though headphones can simulate back channels......that's just your ears being fooled.
Really make it in the back channels.....and the fooling is over. It sounds behind you becuase it is sound behind you.
As well......nothing beats flying an SBD, and hearing in my back channels a Zero strafing into my tail, all the while sjt17 blazing at him with my tail gun, straight into his nose cone..........boom.....off in the back left distance.
Engine noise in the front.....chaos in the back. God bless America.
