Ok, so currently I'm running a Dell 545S that i upgraded a little bit... got it for Christmas from my parents. It's ok, but i want something i can overclock. I've been looking around trying to find something at a decent price that i could overclock. anyone have any good recommendations for a not too expensive cpu and mobo that would get me at least to 3.0GHz?

Dual or Quad? Willing to go AMD? We would need to know what you are going to salvage out of your current rig... What Kind of memory, PSU, GPU, etc...
Moving's new rig is a good start if you want 3.0+. I agree with the overclocking. FOr cycle speeds it really isn't necessary.
If you REALLY want to overclock go i7 with liquid cooling but that will cost you.

well i have liquid cooling in my current setup, even though i don't really need it lol. i put everything in a bigger case than the dell case it came in, the case also came w a psu but ill probaby get a good one w my new setup. i have a crappy ati Radeon sapphire HD 4650 card that i plan on upgrading eventually.. memory, not sure if i can salvage that. might keep the current one running and keep for media then build a good gaming rig that i can overclock. and right now im running dual core, whats the difference in dual and quad? lol sorry if that was a dumb question

Look at www.tomshardware.com for some good advice. They have good articles on building gaming rigs for different budgets.

the video on the mobo talks like it will be pretty bad ass for gaming and from what i understand, i can run 4 graphics cards?Last edited by fender_dude07; 08-25-10 at 09:20 PM.
