Re: SSD vs. HDD?
I have a system that I put one in initially but over time I found that some programs would have glitches if they were not on the primary C drive. I found solutions later, but ended up just returning to my RAID0+1 setup for speed and redundancy.
I know I will go back to SSD down the road, but they will need to be bigger and then also lower in price.

Ya, im not even considering buying one until they are at least 50 GB for a decent price, something under $100 or so. This would also give companies time to perfect the SSD, and not be just a super-fast HDD.
Why no rank?
Because that isn't why or how I play.

You should always think about the future. 60 GB is not much space at all. What I mean by that is that I thought the same thing when I got my 75GB Raptor drive. I used it for my OS, commonly used apps (Office, etc), and Steam. Before I knew it, that 75 GB was filled up. Since Steam will only install games on one drive. If this happens to you, check out this thread and follow the steps verbatim.

This freed up a bunch of space on my OS drive, leaving the Valve games on my OS drive and the other games on my secondary storage. Now I have two WD Black 640 GB drives in Raid-0 for my games giving me approx 1.2 TB of storage for my games. No redundancy... just performance. I have a third 500 GB drive for my important files. I still use the Raptor for my OS and other apps and I stream any media from my HTPC.

Re: SSD vs. HDD?
Not really worth the few seconds you shave off your boot/load times, IMO. They're pricey, low on storage, and as Rumble mentioned, they can still be fairly glitchy. I had one in my most recent personal rig for about a week, eventually gave up, formatted it and sold it to a friend on the cheap, and put a 1TB HDD in its place. Until the price comes down a lot, it's not worth being an early adopter in this case.

Re: SSD vs. HDD?
Four drives in RAID-0+1 is super speedy and super capacity and super redundancy.
Right now you can get 500gb drives for just over $50 each, or 1TB drives for just over $80, so for between $200 and $320 you can have super speed, super capacity and you really have to mess up bad to lose your data.Last edited by Rumble; 09-07-10 at 06:17 AM.
