    Video Question

Yes, it's late but when I decided why not put together a PC in the wee hours of the morning I didn't expect any weird issues... however despite the annoyance of all the cables to hook up everything seems to be going smoothly EXCEPT when it turns on the screen lights up then goes to power savings mode and won't show bios post, etc it's not the video card itself as I've tried different ones in another machine, all the plugins are correct at least per the mobo guide.. power switch turns it off and on, etc I can hear the new HD rattling, the p/s has a cord built in for pci-e which has a 6x plug with a detached 2x (2 of these heads) and I'm wondering if using that vs seperate included 6x's w/o the 2x detached are what's causing it to not light up the monitor? any other thoughts would be appreciated

Check if board bios is updated. May need to use existing pc to dl bios update, burn it to a disk.
That's what I had to do with mine.

Those 6+2 plugs are fine. What video card and how big is your power supply?

    This

If your PS cant handle the load of the vid card then it will either power it down or run slowly, if at all.

    Re: Video Question

Check the wattage/volts on the PCI cords. If your power supply can't pull over enough watts for the video card to handle, it will not work. Had a problem with this with my GTX 260: The power supply was a 730 watt, but the PCI cords from it were not giving enough power for the video card to run off of. Make sure that there are enough watts running through the cord for the video card, otherwise it will not run.
    Why no rank?

Because that isn't why or how I play.

Allright, it's an 1000 watt PSU so it's got more then enough juice to handle any of the cards I've tested from the 8800 gtx, to the ati 4870, to the 7800 gtx, bios is up to date, it posts, I think I just can't see anything on the Monitor is the thing.. no video at all .. the cards are getting power (fans come on when machine turns on), haven't tried the CMOS yet (next step)

Could be your memory. Try pulling your memory and reinstalling. Try one module at a time if you have to.
