Are you going to be running CrossfireX?

If that is the case, you want an X38 or an X48 motherboard to take advantage of the dual x16 PCI-E lanes or even a P45 motherboard. The P35 uses 1@16x and 1@4x, while the P45 uses 2@8x. For single card solutions, the P35 actually out performs the P45 in a lot of situations.

Having 2@8x PCI-E cards in CrossfireX will be fine. I haven't seen any advantage to the 2@16x. This is really for future-proofing your system. If you upgrade every 2 years, then the 2@8x should be more than enough.

I actually don't recommend spending any money on the outdated E5300 chip. It is old, slow, and even with an overclock, it won't stand up to many newer games. There are a lot of cheap Core i5 dual core CPUs out there that will blow this thing away as well as some great deals on some AMD chips.

Currently none of the graphics solutions will saturate the 8x PCI-E bus, so you are right sir.

Well i have a new rig planned out, but its gonna be a couple of months before i get everything. i was just gonna drop 50 - 100 dollars on a new mobo for this rig until i get everything else. im keeping this one running, so if i can update it then i will. and for this one, i probably won't be too worried about running crossfire. but im going to w the new build

As long as your current GPU is PCI-E x16 and your DDR2 memory is compatible with the board (usually not a problem) then it'll work. I'm assuming your PSU has the 24-pin main power connector and not just a 20-pin.
